Comparison Between Thick and Thin Bronchoscopes for Diagnosis of Peripheral Pulmonary Lesions

European Respiratory Journal, 2016
Background and Aim There are uncertainties about the strategies for selecting the size of bronchoscopes when approaching peripheral pulmonary lesions (PPLs). This study aimed to compare the circumstances at which thick and thin scopes were used and to determine the optimal approach for better diagnostic yield.

A Flexible Thin Needle for Transbronchial Aspiration Biopsy Through the Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscope

Endoscopy, 1980
A new flexible thin needle for transbronchial aspiration biopsy through the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope has been developed. The instrument is described and the experience gained in 53 transbronchial punctures is reported. The needle is a suitable adjunct to other accessories for use with the flexible fiberoptic bronchoscope.

Bronchial Washing Using a Thin Versus a Thick Bronchoscope to Diagnose Pulmonary Tuberculosis: A Randomized Trial

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 2022
Abstract Background This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy of using a thin bronchoscope for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Methods Between March 2019 and November 2021, we prospectively enrolled participants

A new thin-type bronchoscope improves diagnostic accuracy of peripheral pulmonary carcinoma

Oncology Reports, 2003
We investigated the XBF-4B40 (4B40) thin bronchoscope, which has a 4.0-mm outer diameter and a 2.0-mm biopsy channel, and studied its impact on the diagnosis of lung carcinoma. We analyzed 30 peripheral lung carcinoma cases by performing bronchoscopic examination using the 4B40 and the type 200 videoscope and recorded the most distal bronchus level ...

Liquid-Based Thin-Layer Cytology Can Be Routinely Used in Samples Obtained via Fiberoptic Bronchoscope

Acta Cytologica, 2010
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate liquid-based preparations (LBP) as a replacement for conventional smears (CS) of bronchial brushing (BB) and transbronchial fine-needle aspiration (TBNA) samples obtained via fiberoptic bronchoscope.

The Use of a New Ultra-Thin Fiberoptic Bronchoscope to Determine Endotracheal Tube Position in the Sick Newborn Infant

Chest, 1981
The various techniques available for determining endotracheal tube position after intubation of a newborn are auscultation of the chest, observation of distance rings on the endotracheal tube, and chest radiology. Radiology is considered to be the most reliable method.

Assessment of the New Thin Convex Probe Endobronchial Ultrasound Bronchoscope and the Dedicated Aspiration Needle

Journal of Bronchology & Interventional Pulmonology, 2015
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) allows for accurate minimally invasive mediastinal lymph node staging of lung cancer. The current convex probe EBUS (CP-EBUS) has limitations in the access to certain N1 lymph nodes (lobar and segmental) because of its size.

Diagnosis of right upper lobe lesion using the SUKEDACHI balloon with thin-bronchoscope to facilitate close-to-lesion transbronchial biopsy: Novel bronchoscopic technique

Respiratory Investigation
We report the first clinical use of a single-use bronchial dilatation catheter (SUKEDACHI) with a thin bronchoscope to diagnose a peripheral upper lobe lung lesion. In a man in his 70s, a part-solid nodule in the right upper lobe was difficult to reach using standard techniques.

Late Breaking Abstract - Efficacy of radial EBUS with thin bronchoscope in patients with peripheral pulmonary lesions

Interventional pulmonology, 2019
Patients with peripheral (outer one-third) nodules may benefit from navigational bronchoscopy, radial EBUS, or percutaneous transthoracic needle aspiration (PTNA) in NCCN guideline. This study investigate the effectiveness of radial endobronchial ultrasound – transbronchial biopsy (R-EBUS-TBB) with thin bronchoscope in peripheral lung lesions.
