Numerical and Experimental Analysis of Yb:YAG Thin Disk Regenerative Amplifier

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2021
We present an numerical and experimental analysis of a Yb:YAG thin disk regenerative amplifier. Group velocity dispersion, third order dispersion, and self-phase modulation (SPM) effects are considered in the simulations of the amplification process.

Accretion disks around Black Holes with Advection and Optical Depth Transition

open access: yes, 2004
We consider the effects of advection and radial gradients of pressure and radial drift velocity on the structure of accretion disks around black holes with proper description of optically thick/thin transitions.

Image of the Janis-Newman-Winicour naked singularity with a thin accretion disk [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2019
We study the optical appearance and the apparent radiation flux of a geometrically thin and optically thick accretion disk around the static Janis-Newman-Winicour naked singularity. We confine ourselves to the astrophysically most relevant case, when the

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

High-power 55-fs Yb:YAG thin-disk oscillator at 200 MHz repetition rate

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
High-repetition-rate ultrafast laser oscillators with high average power and short pulse duration provide excellent sources for generating optical frequency combs.

Electron-Positron Pairs in Hot Accretion Flows and Thin Disk Coronae

open access: yes, 1999
We investigate equilibrium accretion flows dominated by $e^+ e^-$ pairs. We consider one- and two-temperature accretion disk coronae above a thin disk, as well as hot optically thin two-temperature accretion flows without an underlying thin disk; we ...

Near‐Infrared Emitting Lanthanide Catecholate Giant Single Crystals – Morphology Control and Photon Down‐Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled syntheses of lanthanide coordination polymers based on the dihydroxybenzoquinone (DHBQ) organic linker afforded large single crystals of Ln‐DHBQ CPs (Ln = Yb, Nd). A novel structural variant of Yb‐DHBQ is identified by means of single crystal diffraction analysis.

Fluorine Abundances in Local Stellar Populations

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the first fluorine measurements in 12 normal K giants belonging to the Galactic thin and thick disks using spectra obtained with the Phoenix infrared spectrometer on the 2.1 m telescope at Kitt Peak. Abundances are determined from the (1−0) R9

Plane wave scattering from thin dielectric disk in free space: Generalized boundary conditions, regularizing Galerkin technique and whispering gallery mode resonances

open access: yesIET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation, 2021
Considered is the plane‐wave scattering from and absorption by a thin circular dielectric disk. The analysis uses a set of the singular integral equations for the effective electric and magnetic currents, derived using the generalized boundary conditions

Three-Dimensional Simulations of Magnetized Thin Accretion Disks around Black Holes: Stress in the Plunging Region

open access: yes, 2008
We describe three-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of a geometrically thin accretion disk around a non-spinning black hole. The disk has a thickness $h/r\sim0.05-0.1$ over the radial range $(2-20)GM/c^2$.
