Conceptual Design and Parametric Optimization of a New Multileveled Horsetail Structure for Bicycle Helmets

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView., 2023
This study aims to explore the feasibility of using a structure inspired by the features of horsetail and human spine as the potential helmet liner, targeting at mitigation of acceleration‐induced injuries. A parametric study is conducted to investigate the effect of individual geometrical variables in the design, indicating its capability to reduce ...

Fluorescence Radiation and Thermal Effect at the Edge of the Disk-Shaped Laser Crystal

open access: yesInternational Journal of Optics, 2022
The fluorescence radiation property at the edge of the thin disk crystal is very important to the design of thin disk lasers. In order to study this effect, in this paper, we established a theoretical model to describe the edge fluorescence radiation ...

Vertical Density Distribution of the Galaxy from Star Count Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2002
The five space density distribution D(z) with distance perpendicular to the Galactic plane were combined. The scale heights and the local densities at z = 0 of the thin disk, thick disk, and the halo components were estimated from the nonlinear least ...

Yb:CaGdAlO_4 thin-disk laser [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2011
We present the first demonstration of a Yb:CALGO thin-disk laser. In a slightly multimode configuration, we obtained up to 30 W of average power at a slope efficiency of 40% and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 32%. With a single-mode cavity, an average power of 25 W was achieved.

Measuring the Dust Masses of Protoplanetary Disks in Lupus with ALMA: Evidence That Disks Can Be Optically Thick at 3 mm

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
Accurate disk mass measurements are necessary to constrain disk evolution and the timescale of planet formation, but such measurements are difficult to make and are very dependent on assumptions. Here, we look at the assumption that the disk is optically

Calculation of electrical impedance of oscillating piezoceramic disk in the area of high frequencies

open access: yesТехнічна інженерія, 2020
The relevance of the use of various functional elements of piezoelectronics in power and information systems is due primarily to their high reliability. As a result of research of mathematical model of the real device it is possible to define a specific ...

Dynamical thin disks

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2023
Thin disk accretion is often modeled in highly dynamical settings using the two-dimensional equations of viscous hydrodynamics, with viscosity representing unresolved turbulence. These equations are supposed to arise after vertical integration of the full three-dimensional equations of hydrodynamics, under the assumption of a geometrically thin disk ...

The AMBRE project: The thick thin disk and thin thick disk of the Milky Way [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2017
We analyze 494 main sequence turnoff and subgiant stars from the AMBRE:HARPS survey. These stars have accurate astrometric information from Gaia DR1, providing reliable age estimates with relative uncertainties of ±1 or 2 Gyr and allowing precise orbital determinations. The sample is split based on chemistry into a low-[Mg/Fe] sequence, which are often
