110 MW Thin-Disk Oscillator [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2022
A compact Kerr-lens mode-locked thin-disk oscillator reproducibly delivering 110 MW output peak power, the highest among all oscillators, is reported. This simple and stable femtosecond oscillator delivering a unique combination of high average power (202 W) and peak power, is an ideal driver and an important milestone for the development of extreme ...

Structural Parameters of Thin and Thick Disks in Edge-On Disk Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2005
We analyze the global structure of 34 late-type, edge-on, undisturbed, disk galaxies spanning a wide range of mass. We measure structural parameters for the galaxies using two-dimensional least-squares fitting to our $R$-band photometry. The fits require

Yb:CaGdAlO_4 thin-disk laser [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2011
We present the first demonstration of a Yb:CALGO thin-disk laser. In a slightly multimode configuration, we obtained up to 30 W of average power at a slope efficiency of 40% and an optical-to-optical efficiency of 32%. With a single-mode cavity, an average power of 25 W was achieved.

Dynamical thin disks

open access: yesPhysical Review D, 2023
Thin disk accretion is often modeled in highly dynamical settings using the two-dimensional equations of viscous hydrodynamics, with viscosity representing unresolved turbulence. These equations are supposed to arise after vertical integration of the full three-dimensional equations of hydrodynamics, under the assumption of a geometrically thin disk ...

Are there thin accretion disks?

open access: green, 2004
Total and internal energy requirements set constraints on the allowable temperature on the disk. In a gas pressure dominated disk, they lead to a cooling rate that decreases with temperature. These findings are used to show that the flow is mildly supersonic, with the azimuthal Mach number moderately exceeding one in a large extent of the disk. Only in

The AMBRE project: The thick thin disk and thin thick disk of the Milky Way [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2017
We analyze 494 main sequence turnoff and subgiant stars from the AMBRE:HARPS survey. These stars have accurate astrometric information fromGaiaDR1, providing reliable age estimates with relative uncertainties of ±1 or 2 Gyr and allowing precise orbital determinations.

The Panchromatic Hubble Andromeda Treasury. XX. The Disk of M31 is Thick

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present a new approach to measuring the thickness of a partially face-on stellar disk, using dust geometry. In a moderately-inclined disk galaxy, the fraction of reddened stars is expected to be 50% everywhere, assuming that dust lies in a thin ...

Chemical constraints on the formation of the Galactic thick disk

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
We highlight some results from our detailed abundance analysis study of 703 kinematically selected F and G dwarf stars in the solar neighbourhood. The analysis is based on spectra of high-resolution (R = 45000 to 110 000) and high signal-to-noise (S/N ...
