2007 European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the International Quantum Electronics Conference, 2007
The principle design ideas of thin disk lasers [1] will be illustrated and the advantages for operating different laser-active materials will be explained in detail. So far, the maximum laser cw-output power demonstrated from one single disk is more than 10 kW with an optical to optical efficiency of more than 50 %.

Advanced Solid State Lasers, 2000
Results for the Nd: YAG thin disk laser are presented. An output power of 65 W is achieved with a two disk laser. Fundamental mode operation is possible at the expense of a reduced efficiency due to the strong and aspherical thermal lens. Using thinner crystals will overcome this problem and a first attempt to preserve the high efficiency is made by ...

Of the components of our MILKY WAY GALAXY, the thin disk is the most prominent part to our eyes. It manifests itself as the band of faint light that we see encircling the whole sky. Except for the bulge in the direction of the center of our Galaxy, the stars that make up the Milky Way as we see it are part of the thin disk, just as our Sun is part of ...

Short-pulse-pumped optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) demands powerful picosecond lasers with high average powers and high pulse energies. We report on the current picosecond thin-disk amplifiers development and their applications in research.

High power thin disk Ho:YAG laser
SPIE Proceedings, 2011The thin disk laser is a successful concept for high output power and/or high pulse energy, high efficiency and good beam quality in the 1 μm range. Holmium-doped materials are a promising approach to transform this success to the 2 μm range. Ho:YAG is especially interesting for high pulse energies due to the long fluorescence lifetime (~ 8 ms ...

Thin-disk laser operation of Ti:sapphire
Optics Letters, 2017We report on the first demonstration, to the best of our knowledge, of a Ti:sapphire thin-disk laser oscillator, and discuss the thermal behavior and the thermally induced lens for different sizes of the pump spot. In multimode cw operation a maximum output power of 7 W was achieved with an optical efficiency of 11%.

Scaling of thin disk pulse amplifiers
SPIE Proceedings, 2008In the past decade, the Thin Disk laser design was very successful as a high power laser design for cw lasers with good beam quality and high efficiency. Several numerical models show that the actually demonstrated output powers are far below the scaling limits due to amplified spontaneous emission (ASE).

Thin disk laser—Energy scaling
Laser Physics, 2009A time resolved numerical model of the interaction between pump absorption, excitation and amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) for the Thin Disk laser design was developed. The model accounts for the spectral distribution of the spontaneous emission, the spectral and spatial distribution of emission and absorption and the spectral and angular ...

Cryogenic Yb:YAG thin-disk laser
SPIE Proceedings, 2011At cryogenic temperatures, Yb:YAG behaves as a 4-level laser. Its absorption and emission cross-sections increase, and its thermal conductivity improves. Yb:YAG thin disk laser performance at room and cryogenic (80°K) temperatures will be presented. The Yb:YAG gain media is cooled using either a pressurized R134A refrigerant system or by a two-phase
