The MHD equilibrium of thin, rotating plasma disks is considered. An axisymmetric steady state is assumed. A corotation lag is included, as is a nonzero toroidal field with Bф ∝ rBr. Rigorous expressions are obtained for a characteristic Alfvén Mach number and temperature, both of which involve vertical averages.

Thin-disk athermal laser system
Optics Communications, 2014Abstract We present a theoretical scheme for Yb 3+ -doped high power radiation-balanced (athermal) thin-disk laser system. This high power laser system consists of several thin disks operating athermally. Athermal amplification is achieved by the balance between heat generated during the amplification process and laser cooling with anti-Stokes ...

Regenerative Yb:KLuW thin disk amplifier
CLEO/Europe - EQEC 2009 - European Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics and the European Quantum Electronics Conference, 2009Ytterbium doped monoclinic double tungstates, like Yb:KYW or Yb:KGW, are attractive gain media for ultrafast laser and amplifier systems, respectively. This is owing to the high absorption and emission cross-section peaks and the broad emission bandwidth.

The chapter reviews the Novikov-Thorne model, which is the standard framework for geometrically thin and optically thick accretion disks around black holes, pointing out its assumptions. It also describes the transfer function for thin accretion disks and how the transfer function can be calculated in a stationary and axisymmetric spacetime and in the ...

We report on commercial picosecond thin-disk regenerative amplifiers providing pulse energies up to 200 mJ and 1 kW of average power. A monolithic mirror array was developed for further scaling in a multipass arrangement. First tests in continuous and nanosecond regimes yielded respectively 20 kW and 3 kW of output power.

In the past decade, the Thin Disk laser design was very successful as a high power laser design for cw lasers with good beam quality and high efficiency. Also pulsed lasers based on Thin Disk amplifiers achieved comparable high average power, but mostly with medium pulse energies. Latest results show that the thin disk still has not reached the scaling

Yb:CALGO thin-disk femtosecond oscillator
2013 Conference on Lasers & Electro-Optics Europe & International Quantum Electronics Conference CLEO EUROPE/IQEC, 2013Summary form only given. Thin-disk laser (TDL) technology has a crucial interest for high-power ultrafast laser oscillators. The thermal control of the gain medium allows the generation of high average power and high energy fs pulses directly out of an oscillator.

Thin film head technology has traditionally been used in rigid disk drives. Since floppy disk drives are being pushed towards higher performance and the cost of thin film fabrication is decreasing, the use of thin film heads in high performance floppy disk drives is a logical choice.

Electromagnetic response of thin disks
ZAMP Zeitschrift fr angewandte Mathematik und Physik, 1988In the present paper the general problem when the primary field is not axisymmetric is considered. An orthogonal expansion method is used to transform the governing integro-differential equation for the eddy- currents into an infinite set of linear equations which are solved numerically.

The principle ideas of the thin disk laser design will be illustrated and the advantages for operating different laser materials will be explained. The results for cw- and q-switched operation as well as for amplification of short (ns) and ultra-short (ps, fs) pulses demonstrate the potential of the thin disk laser design.
