The Ages of the Thin Disk, Thick Disk, and the Halo from Nearby White Dwarfs

open access: yes, 2017
We present a detailed analysis of the white dwarf luminosity functions derived from the local 40 pc sample and the deep proper motion catalog of Munn et al (2014, 2017).

Comparative Wear and Friction Analysis of Sliding Surface Materials for Hydrostatic Bearing under Oil Supply Failure Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrostatic bearings excel in high‐precision applications, but their performance hinges on a continuous external supply. This study evaluates various material combinations for sliding surfaces to mitigate damage during supply failures or misalignment and to discover the most effective materials identified for enhancing the reliability and efficiency of

Status of the High Average Power Diode-Pumped Solid State Laser Development at HiLASE

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2015
An overview of the latest developments of kilowatt-level diode pumped solid state lasers for advanced applications at the HiLASE Centre is presented. An overview of subcontracted and in-house-developed laser beamlines is presented. The aim of development

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.

Investigating the Lower Limit of Metallicity for the Galactic Thin Disk

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We explore the metal-poor regime of the Galactic disk on the distribution of stars in the [ α /M]– V _ϕ plane, to identify the most metal-poor thin disk (MPTnD) stars belonging to the low- α sequence.

Research Paper: Producing High Average Power Pulses From the Yb:YAG Thin-disk Active Medium with Acousto-optic Modulator [PDF]

open access: yesفیزیک کاربردی ایران
In recent years, thin-disk active media geometry has facilitated the development of pulsed and continuous laser sources with extremely high output powers. In this study, the technique of Q-switching utilizing an acousto-optic modulator and a Yb: YAG thin-

Black Hole Accretion with Saturated Magnetic Pressure and Disk Wind

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
We construct an analytical black hole accretion disk model that incorporates both magnetic pressure and disk wind, which are found to be important from numerical simulations.

Numerical and Experimental Analysis of Yb:YAG Thin Disk Regenerative Amplifier

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2021
We present an numerical and experimental analysis of a Yb:YAG thin disk regenerative amplifier. Group velocity dispersion, third order dispersion, and self-phase modulation (SPM) effects are considered in the simulations of the amplification process.

Two-component model for the chemical evolution of the Galactic disk [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In the present paper, we introduce a two-component model of the Galactic disk to investigate its chemical evolution. The formation of the thick and thin disks occur in two main accretion episodes with both infall rates to be Gaussian.
