Non-LTE Sodium Abundance in Galactic Thick- and Thin-Disk Red Giants
We evaluate non-local thermodynamical equilibrium (non-LTE) line formation for neutral sodium in model atmospheres of the 79 red giants using the model atom that incorporates the best available atomic data.

A Toy Model for Blandford-Znajek Mechanism [PDF]
A toy model for the Blandford-Znajek mechanism is investigated: a Kerr black hole with a toroidal electric current residing in a thin disk around the black hole.

Cubic Bézier curves are used in the synthesis of novel surface‐based metamaterials with tunable mechanical properties. Surface‐based geometries are 3D printed and tested in compression. The resulting mechanical properties are correlated to changes in the shape of the base curve, with high potential in energy absorption through the adjustment of their ...

Radiation Transport Two-temperature GRMHD Simulations of Warped Accretion Disks
In many black hole (BH) systems, the accretion disk is expected to be misaligned with respect to the BH spin axis. If the scale height of the disk is much smaller than the misalignment angle, the spin of the BH can tear the disk into multiple ...

We describe three-dimensional general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of a geometrically thin accretion disk around a non-spinning black hole. The disk has a thickness $h/r\sim0.05-0.1$ over the radial range $(2-20)GM/c^2$.

The influence of Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) temperature on the microstructure and creep performance of powder bed fusion–laser beam processed CM247LC superalloy is investigated. Grain growth and γ’ precipitate evolution are characterized following HIP at varying temperatures.

Chemical similarities between Galactic bulge and local thick disk red giant stars [PDF]
The evolution of the Milky Way bulge and its relationship with the other Galactic populations is still poorly understood. The bulge has been suggested to be either a merger-driven classical bulge or the product of a dynamical instability of the inner ...
