The numerical simulation of thin film flow over heterogeneous substrates [PDF]
Considerable progress in the understanding of thin film flow over surfaces has been achieved thanks to lubrication theory which enables the governing Navier-Stokes equations to be reduced to a more tractable form, namely a coupled set of partial ...

Thin Nematic Films on Liquid Substrates [PDF]
Thin films of cyanobiphenyl liquid crystals (nCB) deposited on water or glycerol have been studied in the nematic temperature range. A common property of the systems is the hybrid anchoring conditions at the film interfaces. The preferred orientation of the nematic director is planar at the liquid interface, and it is homeotropic and somewhat weaker at

Electro-optical Simulation of a-Si Thin-Film-Transistor Liquid Crystal Display Pixels [PDF]
An analysis of an amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) pixel is presented. The electro-optical model combines the electrical properties of the switching element and the optical performance of a twisted nematic ...

The Flow of Thin Liquid Films. [PDF]
WHILST observing the “Brownian” movement of particles of gamboge in water with the aid of a microscope (magnification, about 360 diams.), it occurred to me to press gently on the cover-glass of the slide, so as to cause a movement of the water containing the suspended matter, and to note the paths of these in the vicinity of some larger stationary ...

Fluorescence in thin liquid films
The fluorescence properties of Rhodamine B in thin liquid films, formed from a number of anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactant solutions, were investigated. Laser excitation was used and the emission was monitored over a period of time. Drainage profiles with light and dark fluorescence fringes were recorded with plane-polarized radiation.

Semi-empirical approach to characterize thin water film behaviour in relation to droplet splashing in modelling aircraft icing [PDF]
Modelling the ice accretion in glaze regime for the supercooled large droplets is one of the most challenging problems in the aircraft icing field. The difficulties are related to the presence of the liquid water film on the surface in the glaze regime ...

Magnetowetting of Ferrofluidic Thin Liquid Films [PDF]
AbstractAn extended meniscus of a ferrofluid solution on a silicon surface is subjected to axisymmetric, non-uniform magnetic field resulting in significant forward movement of the thin liquid film. Image analyzing interferometry is used for accurate measurement of the film thickness profile, which in turn, is used to determine the instantaneous slope ...
