Labyrinthine instability in thin liquid films
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2010When a thin liquid film on a solid surface has a thickness corresponding to a particular part the spinodal region of the disjoining pressure versus thickness isotherm, the film breaks down. One of the patterns that emerges on the breakdown has been referred to as wavy instability.

Elasticity of thin liquid films
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1967Abstract The elasticity of a film drawn from a surfactant solution has been determined by measuring simultaneously the increase in surface tension and the corresponding relative change in thickness of a film element. The film element was extended by increasing the weight of the film suspended from the element.

Abstract : An improved experimental method for studying vertical soap films slowly pulled out of a solution is described and the interpretation of the optical thickness measurements is discussed. The behavior of mobile films presents complications which are described. Rigid films on the other hand give results for films thicker than 800 1100 Angstroms,

The breakup of a free thin liquid film subjected to an impulsive acceleration is investigated. A soap film is stretched on a frame at the exit of a shock tube. As the shock impacts the film, the film accelerates within a very short time and detaches from the frame at a constant velocity function of the shock strength.

Soap films and some fundamentals of thin‐liquid films
Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1968AbstractA brief summary of recent results of research on the thinning, equilibria, and bursting of soap films is given along with a proposal for the nomenclature of systems involving adsorption.

Structure Formation in Thin Liquid Films
2007We outline some recent developments in the theoretical description of structure formation in thin liquid films. The main focus is systems involving a single layer of liquid on a solid substrate that can be described using an evolution equation for the film thickness profile.

The shear of thin liquid films
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1971Optically smooth rubber pressed against glass provides a microconforming contact between which a thin uniform film of liquid can be sandwiched. The contact largely overcomes the problem of asperity interaction between surfaces. The rubber surface could be slid relative to the glass plate under controlled conditions and in this way it proved possible to

The Flow of Liquids in Thin Films
1964Publisher Summary This chapter studies fluid–flow characteristics of liquids in layers, with and without a superimposed gas velocity. The types of turbulence in layers need to be investigated and also the nature of a laminar layer containing ripples.
