Effect of thinning on anatomical adaptations of Norway spruce needles [PDF]
Conifers and other trees are constantly adapting to changes in light conditions, water/nutrient supply and temperatures by physiological and morphological modifications of their foliage. However, the relationship between physiological processes and anatomical characteristics of foliage has been little explored in trees.

EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Ultrasonographic Features of Tuberculous Cervical Lymphadenitis
Making an accurate diagnosis of tuberculous cervical lymphadenitis (TCL) has been a problem to clinicians because it is a versatile masquerader and is often confused with lymphomas or cervical metastases.

Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.

Design and evaluation of a mechanical pencil-based actuator for a wasp-inspired needle.
In percutaneous interventions, long and thin needles are used to reach deep target locations within the body. However, inserting a long and thin needle into the tissue can cause needle buckling, resulting in poor control of the needle's trajectory and ...
