Shrinkage stresses in a thin plate with a central weld
The Journal of Strain Analysis for Engineering Design, 1977A study was made of the residual stresses caused by weld shrinkage in a plate containing a central longitudinal weld. A theoretical analysis was developed in which the weld was treated as a moving concentrated heat source, through-thickness variations in temperature and stress being ignored.

The control of the thin-plate welds geometry and microstructure
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 1997Abstract In this paper, an attempt was made to employ conventional shear waves to investigate the quality of thin-plate welds. A quantitative measure of the weld pool width was suggested, and the alignment as well as the symmetry of the pool about the weld line is indicated without micro-sectioning the weld.

A Friction Stir Welding Platform of Thin Plates
Advanced Materials Research, 2012Friction stir welding processes involve many variables. Engineers and operators often find it difficult to effectively design or control it. The objective of this work is to develop a friction stir welding platform of thin plates to improve welding quality and to increase production efficiency.

Static and fatigue performance of overlap welded thin plates
Materials Express, 2020Thin-plate overlap welding is an important connection method for the automobile chassis structure. The fatigue performance of the chassis structural components depends mostly on the welded joints. A detailed understanding of its performance plays an important guiding role in the design of the chassis structure.

Influence of Welding Current on Formation of Weld Bead in TIG Welding for Joining Thin Plates
Advanced Engineering Forum, 2018In this paper, a new (novel) welding technology has been applied to join 0.1 mm thin plates. An initial study on the influence of welding current on the welding properties for stainless steel SUS304 plates is discussed in this paper. The weld bead appearance on both top surface and bottom surface was observed by microscope to indicate the change of ...

The Effects of Plate Dimensions on Residual Stresses in Welded Thin Steel Plates
Volume 6: Materials and Fabrication, Parts A and B, 2008Residual stress distributions have been measured on thin (4 mm thick) plates made from a ferritic steel designated grade DH-36 using the neutron diffraction technique. The welded specimens include two large (1 m × 1 m) butt welded plates, onto one fillet welded stiffeners were also added, and a smaller (0.5 m × 0.5 m) fillet welded stiffened plates ...

Laser welding of Al-Mg alloy with the thin plate
SPIE Proceedings, 2005The aluminum alloy, 5A06, was used in the experiment. High power Nd:YAG laser was adopted as the source and argon as shielding gas. The laser welding of Al alloy with thin plate was a difficult thing especially in the butt form of the thickness 0.5mm to 0.5mm and the fillet form of unequal thickness case.

Prediction of welding distortion in butt joint of thin plates
Materials & Design, 2009This paper investigates distortions and residual stresses induced in butt joint of thin plates using Metal Inert Gas welding. A moving distributed heat source model based on Goldak's double-ellipsoid heat flux distribution is implemented in Finite Element (FE) simulation of the welding process. Thermo-elastic-plastic FE methods are applied to modelling
