Sulfur–Fluoride Exchangeable Moiety‐Integrated Mediator of Benzenesulfonyl Fluoride Additives in Low‐Electrolyte Lithium–Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
Benzenesulfonyl fluoride (BF) regulates the transformation of lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) through its sulfur–fluoride exchangeable moiety. Leveraging its chemoselectivity, BF promotes the selective reduction of LiPSs (Li2S8 → Li2S4) while suppressing undesired side reactions, a behavior not observed in the absence of the additive.

Steel Based Precious Group Metal‐Free High‐Performance Electrodes for Alkaline Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 14, 29 July 2026.
Steel‐supported, PGM‐free NiMo cathodes and anodized Ni‐coated steel anodes enable an ionomer‐free anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer. The fully noble‐metal‐free single cell delivers 1 A cm−2 at 1.92 V in 1 M KOH (60 °C) with stable operation over 60 h under dynamic conditions, demonstrating a scalable approach to cost‐effective green hydrogen ...

Oxidation of Aqueous Sulfide by Chlorate: Implications for Native Sulfur Formation on Mars

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract The recent discovery of native sulfur (“sulfur stones” consist of elemental sulfur) by Curiosity rover in the Gale Crater has sparked considerable research interest toward identifying its formation mechanisms that could generate novel insights into Martian sulfur cycling.
