Thixotropic behavior of lysozyme solutions

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1981
It is shown that lysozyme solutions exhibit thixotropic properties down to the very low concentration of 10−4 by weight. The entire range of concentration up to 30% by weight is investigated. It is found that there are three ranges, namely, from 10−4 to 2×10−3; from 3×10−3 to 10−2, and larger than 15%, each of them characterized by different behavior ...

Thixotropic measurements of bentonite suspensions*

Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1955
The use of the hysteresis loop method for the determination of the thixotropic state of bentonite suspensions has been established and the use of the planimeter to measure hysteresis loops has been introduced. The concepts of the thixotropic unit and the thixotropic ratio were devised so that comparison of the degrees of thixotropy of bentonite ...

Leveling of thixotropic liquids

Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, 2011
Abstract In this paper the effect of thixotropy in the hydrodynamic behavior of thin films is studied. The simple problem of leveling on a horizontal substrate is considered. The rheological properties of the material are assumed to evolve over time due purely to changes in its internal structure.

THIXOTROPING AGENT

2000
The novel thixotroping agent according to the invention is obtained by reacting a component that contains isocyanate groups with a primary or secondary amine or a mixture of such amines and/or water. The component that contains isocyanate groups comprises Ia) at least one isocyanate with at least one diisocyanate structural unit which has i) an ...

Characteristics of Thixotropic Behavior

Transactions of the Society of Rheology, 1971
The shear stress-shear rate behavior of a thixotropic hectorite clay-water suspension was studied in a Couette viscometer under a wide variety of rest and shear rate histories. Shear stress decay and build-up transients resulting from step changes in shear rate were measured.

Thixotropic gravity currents

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2013
AbstractWe present a model for thixotropic gravity currents flowing down an inclined plane that combines lubrication theory for shallow flow with a rheological constitutive law describing the degree of microscopic structure. The model is solved numerically for a finite volume of fluid in both two and three dimensions.
