Chiral Phase Change Nanomaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates reversible, non‐volatile phase transitions in chiral Ge2${\rm Ge}_2$Sb2${\rm Sb}_2$Te5${\rm Te}_5$ (GST) nanohelices for high‐speed optical modulation of chirality and dynamic control of the state of polarization (SOP). The chiral nanostructures are fabricated using a highly directional, wafer‐scale physical vapor deposition ...

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Nanoscale Spatial Tuning of Superconductivity in Cuprate Thin Films via Direct Laser Writing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Maskless direct laser writing enables local control of oxygen stoichiometry in epitaxial YBCO thin films under ambient conditions. Sub‐micrometer grayscale patterns with tunable optical response and superconducting transport properties are achieved.

Spinal Epidural Abscess Complicated by Compressive Myelopathy and Secondary Cord Ischemia: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Surgery
Spinal cord infarction (SCI) is an uncommon condition with a generally poor prognosis for neurologic recovery. There are numerous possible causes for SCI, yet frequently the etiology is not fully elucidated.

Ferroelectric Polarization Enabled Threshold Voltage Modulation in High Electron Mobility Transistor

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A comprehensive model is developed to capture the coupled electrostatics of a ferroelectric capacitor and a metal‐insulator‐semiconductor high electron mobility transistor (MISHEMT) connected in ferroelectric‐metal high electron mobility transistor (FeMHEMT) configuration.

Molecular Rotors: From Newtonian Fluids to Functional Materials as Viscosity and Temperature Sensing Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Molecular rotors are fluorescent molecules that are sensitive to viscosity and temperature variations in the environment. They exhibit a direct correlation between fluorescence and viscosity within Newtonian fluids. However, this correlation becomes less straightforward in complex systems.

Mineral Deposition From Liquid Precursors Triggered by Complementary Polyelectrolytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Polyelectrolyte additives can delay or prevent crystal nucleation in supersaturated solutions of insoluble mineral salts such as calcium carbonate. This work reports that adding a second, oppositely‐charged polyelectrolyte leads to immediate mineral crystallization from such metastable solutions.

Network Topology Governs Photocatalytic Water Splitting in Organic Two‐Dimensional Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Network topology in organic two‐dimensional crystals (O2DCs) dictates the photocatalytic water splitting performance. Kagome‐lattice O2DCs exhibit strong electron‐hole mass asymmetry, spatially separated carriers, and longer recombination lifetimes, exceeding rhombic isomers.

Boosting Conversion Efficiency in Zn3P2/InP Solar Cells Via Nanoscale Junction Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the efficacy of selective area epitaxy (SAE) in enhancing the conversion efficiency of a Zn3P2${\rm Zn}_3{\rm P}_2$/InP heterojunction solar cell. The impact of the SAE pattern dimensions on the performance parameters is investigated. Small size opening limits Jsc because of current crowding whereas large size opening limits Voc
