Effects of reindeer grazing and recovery after cessation of grazing on the ground-dwelling spider assemblage in Finnish Lapland [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2019
The effect of reindeer Rangifer tarandus L. grazing on the ground-dwelling spider assemblage in Northern Finland was studied. Changes in species richness, abundance and evenness of spider assemblages were analyzed in relation to changes in vegetation and

SpiderATLAS: A Database of Spider Traits and Distributions in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Biodiversity shortfalls related to limited knowledge about geographic distribution (Wallacean) and species traits (Raunkiæran) are extremely common in many animal groups and perhaps more evident in invertebrate groups such as spiders. This lack of knowledge could present challenges for researchers investigating the response and effects of ...

A check list of the spider fauna of the Karoo National Park, South Africa (Arachnida: Araneae)

open access: yesKoedoe: African Protected Area Conservation and Science, 1999
A check list of the spider species of the Karoo National Park collected over a period of 10 years is presented. Thirty-eight families, represented by 102 genera and 116 species have been collected. Of these species, 76 (66.4 ) were wanderers and 39 (33.6

Semi‐tilling maintains the arthropod food web structure but decreases biological pest control in olive groves

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 187, Issue 3, Page 345-355, November 2025.
Semi‐tillage, a widely used agricultural method to improve water availability and minimise soil erosion in crops, may compromise pest control in olive groves. Stable isotopes (N15 and C13) analysis showed an effect of semi‐tillage in the composition of the basal resources of potential natural enemies in the three olive grove strata: These changes may ...

Identification of potential predators of western bean cutworm (Striacosta albicosta) in field corn through molecular gut‐content analysis

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 173, Issue 11, Page 1165-1176, November 2025.
The noctuid pest western bean cutworm (Striacosta albicosta) lays its eggs in corn fields over the season. Various generalist predators consume the eggs and larvae of this pest. To improve integrated pest management of S. albicosta, this study identified key trophic interactions between S. albicosta and predatory arthropods in corn fields.

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 10, Page 3037-3080, October 2025.
Eastern Hemlock is a long‐lived forest tree of eastern North America known for its deep shade and home given to many organisms. Despite surviving large‐scale clearing for agriculture when Europeans arrived, it returned to dominate when the land was abandoned in the mid 1800s.

OPTICAL STRUCTURE OF THE CRAB SPIDER MISUMENOPS PALLENS (ARANEAE, THOMISIDAE)

open access: yesJournal of Arachnology, 2000
We describe the histological structure of the eyes of Misumenops pallens(Araneae, Thom- isidae). We have carried out frontal, sagittal and transverse histological sections of the eyes. All the eyes have cuticular and laminar corneas and lenses. The anterior median eyes have two cellular types in the rhabdom; the remaining eyes have three cellular types.
