Geometric presentations for Thompson's groups
We prove that Thompson's groups $F$ and $V$ are the geometry groups of associativity, and of associativity together with commutativity, respectively. We deduce new presentations of $F$ and $V$. These presentations lead to considering a certain subgroup of $V$ and an extension of this subgroup.

Thompson’s Group and Public Key Cryptography [PDF]
Recently, several public key exchange protocols based on symbolic computation in non-commutative (semi)groups were proposed as a more efficient alternative to well established protocols based on numeric computation. Notably, the protocols due to Anshel-Anshel-Goldfeld and Ko-Lee et al.

Abstract Community action focused on sociocultural and environmental influences to prevent alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and related harms is a global priority. Despite this recognition, understanding of effective community‐level approaches is limited.

We introduce forest diagrams and strand diagrams for elements of Thompson's group F. A forest diagram is a pair of infinite, bounded binary forests together with an order-preserving bijection of the leaves. Using forest diagrams, we derive a simple length formula for elements of F, and we discuss applications to the geometry of the Cayley graph ...

Thompson’s conjecture for alternating groups
Let $G$ be a finite group, and let $N(G)$ be the set of sizes of its conjugacy classes. We show that if a finite group $G$ has trivial center and $N(G)$ equals to $N(Alt_n)$ or $N(Sym_n)$ for $n\geq 23$, then $G$ has a composition factor isomorphic to an alternating group $Alt_k$ such that $k\leq n$ and the half-interval $(k, n]$ contains no primes. As

‘Turkeys Cannot Vote for Christmas’: Why Epistemic Disobedience in an Anti‐Black World Matters
ABSTRACT Never in the history of global coloniality has the idea of epistemic disobedience been as important as in the 21st century. This is not only because the struggle for decolonisation has shifted from physical confrontation between the coloniser and the colonised into a battle of ideas but also because the former has deployed the idea of ...

Divergence Property of the Brown-Thompson Groups and Braided Thompson Groups
Abstract Golan and Sapir proved that Thompson’s groups F, T and V have linear divergence. In the current paper, we focus on the divergence property of several generalisations of the Thompson groups. We first consider the Brown-Thompson groups $$F_n$$ F

ABSTRACT This article reflects on the construction of a supportive community of Black Afro‐diasporic graduate students and their supervisors researching issues relating to race in the field of education in Australia. It draws on the concept of marronage—a term rooted in the fugitive act of becoming a maroon, where enslaved people enacted an escape in ...

Describing all bi-orderings on Thompson's group F
We describe all possible ways of bi-ordering Thompson group F: its space of bi-orderings is made up of eight isolated points and four canonical copies of the Cantor set.Comment: Final ...
