Interaction of photons with plasmas and liquid metals: photoabsorption and scattering

open access: yes, 1999
Formulas to describe the photoabsorption and the photon scattering by a plasma or a liquid metal are derived in a unified manner with each other. It is shown how the nuclear motion, the free-electron motion and the core-electron behaviour in each ion in ...

Changes in DOM Quality Determine Prokaryotic Activities and Extracellular Release in the NW Mediterranean Sea: An Experimental Approach

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 3, June 2026.
Changes in DOM composition influence prokaryotic species growth in the Mediterranean Sea, shaping their metabolic responses and organic matter processing. In our study, higher DOP consumption and alkaline phosphatase activity led to the accumulation of recalcitrant DOM, highlighting how microbial community shifts drive distinct pathways in carbon ...

Nonlinear effects in Thomson backscattering

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2013
We analyze the nonlinear classical effects of the X/γ radiation produced by Thomson/Compton sources. We confirm the development of spectral fringes of the radiation on axis, which comports broadening, shift, and deformation of the spectrum.

Spin Transition of Fe3+ in δ‐(Al,Fe)OOH and Implication for Mid‐Lower Mantle Seismic Heterogeneities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 10, 28 May 2026.
Abstract δ‐(Al,Fe)OOH is an important water carrier and plays a critical role on Earth's deep water cycle. Lattice parameters of δ‐(Al0.89Fe0.11)OOH were measured by synchrotron single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction at simultaneously high temperature and pressure up to 65 GPa and 800 K in diamond anvil cells.

Thomson Scattering and Radiation Reaction from a Laser-Driven Electron

open access: yesPhotonics
We investigate the dynamics of electrons initially counter-propagating to an ultra-fast ultra-intense near-infrared laser pulse using a model for radiation reaction based on the classical Landau–Lifshitz–Hartemann equation.

An Artificial Antibody‐Based Toolbox Accelerates Validation of Hidden Microproteins Encoded by the Dark Genome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 28, 18 May 2026.
Microproteins are hidden treasures encoded by the “dark proteome” but remain largely underexplored due to the lack of highly efficient tools. We developed a molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs)‐based toolbox (CLAIMID) to achieve accelerated and ultrasensitive microproteins validation at multiple biological scales (single living cells, cell populations,
