Thomson scattering at general fusion

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2016
This paper provides an overview of the Thomson scattering diagnostic in use at General Fusion, including recent upgrades and upcoming plans. The plasma experiment under examination produces temperatures in the 50-500 eV range with density on the order of 1020 m−3.

Spectral analyzer for Thomson scattering

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1979
We describe here a four-channel spectral analyzer suitable for use in Thomson scattering diagnostics of plasmas, that incorporates several novel features and is inexpensive and physically compact. It is suitable for spectral analysis of light scattered from plasmas having densities down to ∼1014 cm−3 and temperatures up to several hundred electron ...

Multipoint Thomson scattering

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1983
A new detector system for single shot measurement of electron temperature and density profiles in a magnetically confined plasma has been developed. Preliminary results have been obtained with this multipoint Thomson scattering diagnostic on Torus II, a high beta tokamak.

A compact multichannel spectrometer for Thomson scattering

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2012
The availability of high-efficiency volume phase holographic (VPH) gratings and intensified CCD (ICCD) cameras have motivated a simplified, compact spectrometer for Thomson scattering detection. Measurements of Te < 100 eV are achieved by a 2971 l/mm VPH grating and measurements Te > 100 eV by a 2072 l/mm VPH grating.

Edge Thomson scattering on RFX-mod

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2006
Electron temperature and density profiles of the RFX-mod experiment are characterized by edge gradients typically steeper than the flatter central region. The main Thomson scattering (TS) diagnostic which measures 84-point profiles along a diameter is mainly devoted to cover the core region.

Development of KSTAR Thomson scattering system

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2010
To measure the electron temperature (Te) and electron density (ne) profiles in the Korean Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) device for the KSTAR third campaign (September 2010), we designed and installed a Thomson scattering system. The KSTAR Thomson scattering system is designed as a tangential Thomson scattering system and utilizes ...

Deconvolution of Thomson scattering temperature profiles

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2011
Deconvolution of Thomson scattering (TS) profiles is required when the gradient length of the electron temperature (Te) or density (ne) are comparable to the instrument function length (ΔR). The most correct method for deconvolution to obtain underlying Te and ne profiles is by consideration of scattered signals. However, deconvolution at the scattered

The new RFX Thomson scattering system

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2001
The present Thomson scattering system at the reversed field experiment routinely determines electron temperature and density profiles in various modes of operation but only provides a single profile of each discharge. The new system will use a Nd:YLF laser providing measurements every 20 ms.

Filtered Thomson scattering in an argon plasma

AIAA Journal, 2001
A filtered Thomson scattering technique has been developed to measure electron temperature T e and electron number density n e in an atmospheric pressure argon plasma. The problems of the strong background scattered light and the high plasma luminosity were resolved by employing an atomic vapor filter that provided strong attenuation of stray ...

Rotational Raman scattering of hydrogen for calibrating a Thomson scattering device

Applied Optics, 1985
The anti-Stokes rotational Raman scattering from hydrogen gas (60–200 Torr at 293 K) is used to calibrate the intensity of the Thomson scattered signal from the JFT-2M tokamak plasma by the incidence of ruby laser light. The normalized sensitivities as well as the Raman constant are obtained by the Raman scattering experiment.
