Modeling classical and quantum radiation from laser-plasma accelerators

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2013
The development of models and the “Virtual Detector for Synchrotron Radiation” (vdsr) code that accurately describe the production of synchrotron radiation are described.

In Situ Stress‐Dispersing Hydrogel Millispheres via Load Redistribution to Restore Nucleus Pulposus Metabolic Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local stress concentration disrupts metabolic homeostasis and induces inflammation in the nucleus pulposus (NP), thereby accelerating intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). A biomimetic HA/ChS hydrogel millimeter sphere (ChS@HM) is developed to enable synergistic stress dispersion and sustained hydration lubrication.

Focusing effects in laser-electron Thomson scattering

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2016
We study the effects of laser pulse focusing on the spectral properties of Thomson scattered radiation. Modeling the laser as a paraxial beam we find that, in all but the most extreme cases of focusing, the temporal envelope has a much bigger effect on ...

Importance of Compton scattering to radiation spectra of isolated neutron stars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Model atmospheres of isolated neutron stars with low magnetic field are calculated with Compton scattering taking into account. Models with effective temperatures 1, 3 and 5 MK, with two values of surface gravity log(g)g = 13.9 and 14.3), and different ...

Rare‐Earth Yttrium Doping Advances High‐Performance AgSbTe2 Thermoelectrics

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Y‐doped AgSbTe2 achieves band and microstructure co‐optimization, with coherent Y‐Ag2Te interfaces enhancing phonon scattering and reducing lattice thermal conductivity to 0.26 W m−1 K−1. Combined with valence‐band broadening and increased carrier concentration, this yields ZT ≈ 2 at 623 K, average ZT = 1.5, and 7.3 % conversion efficiency of a single ...

Primordial helium recombination III: Thomson scattering, isotope shifts, and cumulative results [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Upcoming precision measurements of the temperature anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) at high multipoles will need to be complemented by a more complete understanding of recombination, which determines the damping of anisotropies on ...

High‐elevation endemic plants predicted to lose habitat from changing climate in Washington State

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise High‐elevation plants face unique challenges from potential climate change impacts that will likely require upslope migration into increasingly smaller suitable habitat. This situation is particularly acute for endemic species that by definition occupy small geographic ranges.

Quantum Theory of Scattering of Nonclassical Fields by Free Electrons

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
At present, there is no non-perturbative theory of scattering of nonclassical electromagnetic waves by free electrons that describes the scattering process completely with the help of quantum physics.

Tunable X-ray source by Thomson scattering during laser-wakefield acceleration

open access: yes, 2019
We report results on all-optical Thomson scattering intercepting the acceleration process in a laser wakefield accelerator. We show that the pulse collision position can be detected using transverse shadowgraphy which also facilitates alignment.
