Pleuropulmonary amebiasis is the common and pericardial amebiasis the rare form of thoracic amebiasis. Low socioeconomic conditions, malnutrition, chronic alcoholism, and ASD with left to right shunt are contributing factors to the development of pulmonary amebiasis. Although no age is exempt, it commonly occurs in patients aged 20 to 40 years, with an

Two rare cases of intrathoracic splenosis are reported. This phenomenon occurs almost exclusively in young men who have experienced splenic rupture and diaphragmatic laceration. The late occurrence of splenosis in the thoracic cavity poses problems in the differential diagnosis of solitary or multiple pleural-based nodules. It is important to recognize

Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 1994
The authors present a case that demonstrates the continued high sensitivity of Tc-99m SC liver-spleen imaging for thoracic splenosis. A patient with profound weight loss, positive PPD and left upper lobe lung density on a chest radiograph was felt to have a strong clinical suspicion of a malignant pulmonary lesion.

Thoracic splenosis is rare, with fewer than two dozen reported cases. Patients uniformly have a history of splenectomy with combined abdominal and thoracic trauma. Clinical signs and symptoms are usually absent, and the condition is most often discovered on routine chest radiography.

Mediastinal adenopathy is a common manifestation of HD in a usually predictable pattern involving anterior and middle mediastinal nodes with or without disease in the hili. Hilar adenopathy is uncommon without detectable mediastinal disease and the lung is virtually never involved alone. In NHL the pattern of disease is more unpredictable.

The evacuation of empyemas first performed centuries ago, marked the beginning of thoracic drainage. The subsequent acquisition of a greater knowledge of the anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the pleural space directed the design of thoracic catheters and drainage systems and the development of the methods by which they are used.
