Gene knockdown of angiopoietin-like protein 3 reduces the occurrence and development of thoracic aortic aneurysms [PDF]

open access: yesJichu yixue yu linchuang, 2021
Objective To explore the role of angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) in the development of thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) and its possible mechanism. Methods The TAA patients who underwent open surgical repair in Beijing Anzhen Hospital were selected

Existing and Emerging Approaches to Risk Assessment in Patients with Ascending Thoracic Aortic Dilatation

open access: yesJournal of Imaging, 2022
Ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm is a life-threatening disease, which is difficult to detect prior to the occurrence of a catastrophe. Epidemiology patterns of ascending thoracic aortic dilations/aneurysms remain understudied, whereas the risk ...

Deep Learning-based Automated Aortic Area and Distensibility Assessment: The Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
This study applies convolutional neural network (CNN)-based automatic segmentation and distensibility measurement of the ascending and descending aorta from 2D phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance imaging (PC-cine MRI) within the large MESA cohort with subsequent assessment on an external cohort of thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) patients.

Data-driven generation of 4D velocity profiles in the aneurysmal ascending aorta [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Numerical simulations of blood flow are a valuable tool to investigate the pathophysiology of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysms (ATAA). To accurately reproduce hemodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models must employ realistic inflow boundary conditions (BCs).

Microaxial pump‐supported coronary surgery without CPB to optimize outcome in severely impaired left ventricles

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is the standard approach for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in advanced ischaemic cardiomyopathy. Microaxial pump support has been envisioned to allow for beating‐heart CABG without CPB (MPCAB), thereby avoiding CPB‐inherent complications.

Natural History Of Syphilitic Aortitis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
No large studies of cardiovascular syphilis at necropsy have been reported since 1964. We examined at necropsy 90 patients who had characteristic morphologic findings of syphilitic aortitis. None had ever undergone cardiovascular surgery.

DeepVox and SAVE-CT: a contrast- and dose-independent 3D deep learning approach for thoracic aorta segmentation and aneurysm prediction using computed tomography scans [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) is a fatal disease which potentially leads to dissection or rupture through progressive enlargement of the aorta. It is usually asymptomatic and screening recommendation are limited. The gold-standard evaluation is performed by computed tomography angiography (CTA) and radiologists time-consuming assessment.

The polymorphisms in angiotensin-converting enzyme and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 are not associated with thoracic aortic diseases and coronary heart disease

open access: yesProceedings of Singapore Healthcare, 2016
Introduction: The polymorphisms of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) and angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) genes have been demonstrated to be involved in some cardiovascular diseases.

Telomere Biology and Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2017
Ascending aortic aneurysms are mostly asymptomatic and present a great risk of aortic dissection or perforation. Consequently, ascending aortic aneurysms are a source of lethality with increased age. Biological aging results in progressive attrition of telomeres, which are the repetitive DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes.
