Specimens were prepared as isolated arterial rings mounted in a tissue bath, and mechanical activity (isometric tension) was measured in response to drugs.

Thoracic bifurcation of the common carotid artery
Neuroradiology, 1973This study was based on angiographic records. We found that the bifurcation of the common carotid artery can be located amazingly low on the neck or even within the upper mediastinum. We have described five such instances; two bifurcations at the T3 level and three at T1-2 level.
