Delayed Complications following Technically Successful Thoracic Duct Embolization
Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2012Thoracic duct (TD) embolization (TDE) has become a universally accepted treatment of chylous pleural effusion. However, the long-term sequelae of occlusion of the TD are unknown. The objective of the present study was to determine the rate of delayed complications after technically successful TDE.A total of 169 patients underwent TDE for symptomatic ...

Pediatric Radiology, 2014
Chylopericardium rarely occurs in pediatric patients, but when it does it is most often a result of lymphatic injury during cardiothoracic surgery. Primary idiopathic chylopericardium is especially rare, with few cases in the pediatric literature. We report a 10-year-old boy who presented with primary idiopathic chylopericardium after unsuccessful ...

Thoracic Duct Embolization: Technique and Applications
2013Thoracic duct embolization (TDE) is an image-guided, minimally invasive alternative to surgical ligation for the treatment of chylothorax and chylopericardium. Chylothorax is a pleural effusion containing chyle. Thoracentesis commonly demonstrates a milky, lymphocytic predominate exudate.

Circulation
Background: Conservative management of chylopericardium with pericardiocentesis, TPN, and octreotide has a high rate of recurrence. On the other hand, surgical management is invasive and can also result in treatment failure as well.

Embolization for Thoracic Duct Collateral Leakage in High-Output Chylothorax After Thoracic Surgery
CardioVascular and Interventional Radiology, 2016This study was designed to investigate thoracic duct collateral leakage and the supply route of lymphatic fluid by lymphangiography and transcatheter thoracic ductography and to evaluate the results of embolization for thoracic duct collateral leakage performed to cut off this supply route.Data were retrospectively collected from five patients who ...

Transcatheter Thoracic Duct Embolization in the Dog An Experimental Study
Veterinary Surgery, 1989Thoracic duct embolization was created by injecting an isobutyl 2‐cyanoacrylate/iophendylate (IBCA) mixture through a cannulated mesenteric lymphatic vessel in eight normal dogs. Aqueous contrast lymphangiography was repeated at minute 10 and week 6. Six dogs were euthanatized at week 6 and two dogs at month 6.

Feasibility of Ultrasound-guided Intranodal Lymphangiogram for Thoracic Duct Embolization
Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, 2012To show the feasibility of opacifying the thoracic duct using ultrasound-guided intranodal lymphangiogram (IL) for thoracic duct embolization (TDE).Six patients (two women and four men, mean age, 59.2 y [range, 43-74 y]) underwent IL and TDE for chylothorax.

The thoracic duct: clinical importance, anatomic variation, imaging, and embolization
European Radiology, 2015The thoracic duct is the body's largest lymphatic conduit, draining upwards of 75 % of lymphatic fluid and extending from the cisterna chyli to the left jugulovenous angle. While a typical course has been described, it is estimated that it is present in only 40-60% of patients, often complicating already challenging interventional procedures.
