Indication and Results of Thoracic Surgical Procedures in Premature Infants
1991This analysis concerns three groups of malformations: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia, patent ductus arteriosus, and oesophageal atresia. We registered a total mortality rate for all congenital diaphragmatic hernias and defects of 28.5%; the rate in full-term neonates was 27.6% and in premature infants 33.6%.

Thoracotomy as the Surgical Route for Synchronous Thoracic and Non-thoracic Procedures
2020Thoracic incisions may also offer exposure and to other anatomic cavities or spaces apart the thoracic cavity. This is not the case with other incisions, like an abdominal midline incision which offers limited access only to the abdominal cavity, and in order to include other cavities or spaces a second incision is needed.

[Thoracic surgery: the major surgical procedures].
Journal de radiologie, 2009The most frequent thoracic surgeries are performed for the treatment of primary lung cancer and pleural mesothelioma. For lung cancer, the standard procedures are pneumonectomy and lobectomy with associated mediastinal lymphadenectomy. In order to avoid pneumonectomy, extended lobectomy with sleeve bronchoplasty and/or angioplasty can be done.

The American Journal of Medicine, 1993Dental surgical procedures occasionally result in intrathoracic complications that may subsequently be encountered by clinicians. We report four patients with such complications, including pneumomediastinum, fatal descending necrotizing mediastinitis, and Lemierre's syndrome.
