Chondroblastoma of the thoracic vertebra

Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2001
A 48-year-old patient with interscapular pain was admitted to our clinic. MRI revealed a mass infiltrating the second thoracic vertebra and adjacent structures. No other clinical manifestations were observed in general examination. The patient underwent surgery and subtotal removal was achieved while anterior and posterior stabilisations were performed.

Anterior approach to the upper thoracic vertebrae

The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1989
The anterior exposure of the upper thoracic spine using standard methods is often difficult and limited. We report our experience using a technique described by Sundaresan et al. (1984) in which the medial portion of one clavicle and part of the manubrium sterni are excised. In 10 cases we found this to be a useful and safe procedure.

Primary tumor of thoracic vertebra: chondrosarcoma

The Spine Journal, 2016
A 46-year-old man who had a prior history of lung mass operation presented with back pain. On suspicion of recurrence physician performed thorax and mediastinal magnetic resonance imaging with contrast. A lobulated mass with cystic necrotic components on the T9 left paravertebral space that extended into the spinal column through the left neural ...

Biomechanical allometry in hominoid thoracic vertebrae

Journal of Human Evolution, 2009
Considerable differences in spinal morphology have been noted between humans and other hominoids. Although comparative analyses of the external morphology of vertebrae have been performed, much less is known regarding variations in internal morphology (density) and biomechanical performance among humans and closely related non-human primates.

Chondromyxoid fibroma of two thoracic vertebrae

Skeletal Radiology, 1999
We report on a case of chondromyxoid fibroma involving two adjacent thoracic vertebrae with features of aggressive behaviour on radiographs, CT and MRI. Histology revealed typical chondromyxoid fibroma with unusually coarse calcifications. Chondromyxoid fibroma of the spine is rare, and only 30 of these tumours have been reported so far. Involvement of

An anterior surgical approach to the upper thoracic vertebrae [PDF]

open access: possibleJournal of Neurosurgery, 1984
✓ Of the various anterior surgical approaches to the spine, exposure of the upper two thoracic vertebrae remains the most challenging. An operative approach to this region is described. The major features include resection of a portion of the clavicle and the manubrium sterni.

A transsternal approach to the upper thoracic vertebrae

The American Journal of Surgery, 1984
An anterior surgical approach to the upper thoracic vertebrae has been described. A T-shaped skin incision is used, with the horizontal limb 1 cm above the clavicle, and the vertical limb extending in the midline over the body of the sternum. A portion of the manubrium sterni, as well as the medial third of the clavicle, is resected; the avacular ...

Thoracic vertebrae fracture: Is it an indicator of abdominal injury?

The American Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2021
Traumatic vertebral fracture accounts for 10-15% of trauma related admissions. While the correlation between lumbar vertebral fractures and abdominal injuries is well established, the relationship between thoracic vertebral fractures (TVF) and abdominal injuries is comparatively less well elucidated.

Benign osteoblastoma of a thoracic vertebra

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1980
✓ A patient with osteoblastoma of the T-11 vertebral body presented with symptoms of spinal cord compression. Six weeks after an emergency laminectomy and subtotal removal, spinal computerized tomography disclosed residual tumor, which was totally removed via a combined anterior transthoracic approach and posterior laminectomy.
