A novel rat model of pulmonary artery embolism and the application value of lung ultrasound B‐lines in early‐stage pulmonary embolism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
We report a novel embolus‐induced PE rat model prepared via the inferior vena cava under ultrasound guidance. The embolus employed featured a tubular plastic casing filled with thrombus. By minimizing the contact surface between plasmin and thrombus, it effectively restrains the elevated plasmin activity in rats.

Revisiting paravertebral muscles in European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and European brown hares (Lepus europaeus) (Leporidae; Lagomorpha)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Domesticated European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) have long been chosen as laboratory model organisms. Despite this, there has been no definitive study of the vertebral musculature of wild rabbits. Relevant descriptions of well‐studied veterinary model mammals (such as dogs) are generally applicable, but not appropriate for a species ...

Incidental Case of Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the Posterior Thoracic Wall: A Cadaveric Finding

open access: yesOnline Journal of Health & Allied Sciences, 2017
Occurrence of secondary tumors from visceral carcinomas on the thoracic cage represent a relatively rare form of metastasis. We present in this report an extremely rare case of an incidental finding of tumor mass (squamous cell carcinoma) in the thoracic

Osteological correlates of the respiratory and vascular systems in the neural canals of Mesozoic ornithurines Ichthyornis and Janavis

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract In birds, the neural canal houses a variety of anatomical structures including the spinal cord, meninges, spinal vasculature, and respiratory diverticula. Among these, paramedullary diverticula and the extradural dorsal spinal vein may leave behind osteological correlates in the form of pneumatic foramina and fossae, and a bilobed geometry of ...

Partial right internal thoracic artery harvesting is sufficient for obtuse marginal branch bypass grafting

open access: yes, 2005
My colleagues and I present a method for revascularizing the left anterolateral myocardial wall by using an in situ left internal thoracic artery to left anterior descending coronary artery system and a short proximal segment (3 to 5 cm) of the right ...

Functional anatomy, jaw mechanisms, and feeding behavior of Dunkleosteus terrelli (Placodermi, Arthrodira)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
A new musculoskeletal reconstruction and revision of the cranio‐mandibular anatomy of the Devonian arthrodire placoderm Dunkleosteus terrelli from a comparative and functional anatomical perspective. Dunkleosteus is a specialized arthrodire with many specializations for feeding on large vertebrates, and many of its features are part of broader ...

CT features of primary bone neoplasia of the thoracic wall in dogs

open access: yes, 2023
Primary thoracic wall neoplasia is uncommon in dogs and the prognosis depends on tumor type. The aims of this retrospective, multi-center, observational study were to describe CT features of primary thoracic wall neoplasia in dogs and to test the ...

Acceleration sensors in abdominal wall position as a non-invasive approach to detect early breathing alterations induced by intolerance of increased airway resistance

open access: yesJournal of Cardiothoracic Surgery, 2017
Background Early detection of respiratory overload is crucial to mechanically ventilated patients, especially during phases of spontaneous breathing. Although a diversity of methods and indices has been established, there is no highly specific approach ...
