The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1998
Lung volume reduction has been performed in patients with advanced emphysema to relieve dyspnea and improve exercise tolerance. Median sternotomy and video-assisted thoracoscopy have been proposed as equally adequate approaches; however, prolonged postoperative air leakage is the most prevalent complication in all series.

Thoracoscopic Aortopexy for Tracheomalacia
World Journal of Surgery, 2014AbstractBackgroundTracheomalacia is a condition that may result in acute life‐threatening events. Aortopexy has become a generally accepted mode of treatment, although the impact of a thoracotomy is considerable. With the advent of minimal invasive surgery the impact of such a procedure may be greatly reduced.

Thoracoscopic Surgery of the Spine
Surgical Innovation, 1996Anterior approach to the thoracic spine has been limited by the morbidity of a thoracotomy. By a thoracoscopic approach, a majority of thoracic spine procedures can now be performed from the anterior approach including diskectomy for herniation, release for correction of spinal deformity and corpectomy for tumor.

Thoracoscopic esophagectomy in children
Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 2001Minimal access surgery is an alternative to open surgery in esophageal resections. Thoracoscopic surgery has been utilized for both benign and malignant esophageal lesions and is a complex and challenging surgical procedure that can provide some benefits in comparison with open thoracotomy.

Thoracoscopic and Laparoscopic Esophagectorny
Seminars in Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2000Esophagectomy is both complex and challenging, and it may be associated with significant morbidity and mortality. With improvements in instrumentation and increasing experience with laparoscopic and thoracoscopic techniques, minimally invasive approaches to esophagectomy are being explored to determine feasibility, results, and potential advantages ...

The lung is a common site of metastatic disease, which may be the only measurable malignancy in some patients. Unfortunately, because of the invasiveness of previous techniques and the fragility of these target organs, many attempts at regional lung therapies have not become that popular.

Thoracoscopic Ganglionectomy for Hyperhidrosis
Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, 1995Thoracoscopic sympathectomy for the treatment of hyperhidrosis has been carried out with techniques that involve either monopolar coagulation or laser injury to the T2 ganglion. Although this has the advantage of being minimally invasive, it has not been established whether these techniques are superior to complete ganglion excision, as carried out ...

Thoracoscopic pulmonary surgery
Seminars in Pediatric Surgery, 2007Thoracoscopy in infants and children has undergone a dramatic evolution in the last 30 years. From its infancy in the mid-1970s, limited procedures such as biopsy and pleural lysis, were pioneered by Rogers and others, and in the late 1990s, the most delicate of procedures, a tracheo-esophageal fistula repair, was performed thoracoscopically for the ...

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2010
In recent years, the field of minimally invasive cardiac surgery has grown rapidly beginning with the MIDCAB operation and evolving toward totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). It promotes the goal of decreasing surgical trauma while maintaining surgical efficacy. For MIDCAB, a limited anterior thoracotomy or mediastotomy have been
