Thoracoscopic sympathectomy

1992
Surgical sympathectomy has traditionally been achieved by 'open' surgical techniques. The transaxillary, cervical, or dorsal approaches have not been without morbidity and cosmetically have been found to be less than ideal. The main indication for sympathectomy in most units is palmar and axillary hyperhidrosis refractory to medical treatment, although

Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy for Palmar Hyperhidrosis

AORN Journal, 2001
ABSTRACTPalmer hyperhidrosis (ie, excessive sweating of the palms) usually appears at puberty and causes psychological, social educational, and occupational problems for people who suffer from it. Although many treatments have been used, the only treatment that permanently eradicates the condition is sympathectomy.

THORACOSCOPIC SYMPATHECTOMY

Chest Surgery Clinics of North America, 1996
Thoracoscopic sympathectomy has become the most widely used approach to cervicothoracic sympathectomy. Appropriate selection of cases and a knowledge of the regional anatomy are essential in achieving good clinical results. The physiology and anatomy of the upper thoracic sympathectomy system and the indications, contraindications, and complications of

Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy: A One-port Technique

ANZ Journal of Surgery, 2000
Background: The present paper describes the development of a one‐port technique for thoracoscopic sympathectomy. Methods: A 7‐mm thorascope with a working channel for diathermy was used. Conclusion: A highly cosmetic, simple, safe, day‐case procedure is achievable.

Thoracoscopic sympathectomy: the U.S. experience

European Journal of Surgery, 2003
48 patients underwent TSSYM. Charts of patients undergoing thoracoscopy were reviewed to assess the safety and efficacy of thoracoscopic sympathectomy (TSSYM).A retrospective review was undertaken at four United States medical centers.TSSYM was performed for reflex sympathetic dystrophy in 27 patients, hyperhydrosis palmaris in 15 patients, and Raynaud'

Pitfalls in Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy

Surgical Laparoscopy, Endoscopy & Percutaneous Techniques, 2001
The technical ease of thoracoscopic sympathectomy has established this as the procedure of choice for upper-limb sympathectomy. Notwithstanding the invariable success of this procedure, those rare instances of unsuccessful sympathectomy are disconcerting to the surgeon.

Thoracoscopic Cervicodorsal Sympathectomy With Diathermy

Annals of Vascular Surgery, 1999
This study reports our experience of using thoracoscopic cervicodorsal sympathectomy with diathermy. From December 1994 to September 1998, we performed 53 thoracoscopic sympathectomies in 35 patients. There were 15 men and 20 women, ages 18 to 61 years. Ten surgeries were performed on the right side, 7 were the left, and 18 were bilateral.

Advantages of limited thoracoscopic sympathectomy

Surgical Endoscopy, 1996
Thoracoscopic resection of the first through the fourth thoracic sympathetic ganglion for palmary and axillary hyperhidrosis and Raynaud's syndrome is associated with a high initial success rate. However, the reported incidence of compensatory hyperhidrosis of the trunk and legs and Horner's syndrome are high.

Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy for Palmaris Hyperhidrosis

Southern Medical Journal, 2003
Palmaris hyperhidrosis is a disorder mediated by the sympathetic nervous system. It causes excessive sweating. This study evaluated the safety, efficacy, and outcome after thoracoscopic sympathectomy in patients with palmaris hyperhidrosis. We reviewed the medical records of 18 patients (10 male) who underwent bilateral thoracoscopic sympathectomy ...

Selective Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Sympathectomy

Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeon, 1993
Video-assisted and thermometrically controlled thoracoscopic sympathectomy demonstrates new ways in the treatment of upper-limb hyperhidrosis. An anatomical portrayal of the sympathetic chain is possible as a result of the improved visualization and magnification of the operative area provided by the video-optic technique. The difference in temperature,
