Thoracotomies in children have been less extensively studied, as the incidence of diseases necessitating thoracotomies is low in the pediatric age group. This study reviews childhood thoracic diseases, thoracotomy approaches, indications, and complications.

The incidence of thoracic scoliosis after completion of growth was studied in a group of patients operated on in childhood with a lateral thoracotomy for esophageal atresia and cardiac and pulmonary disorders. Twenty of 61 patients had a thoracic scoliosis exceeding 10 degrees.

Resuscitation thoracotomy is a rarely performed procedure whose use, in France, remains marginal. It has five specific goals that correspond point-by-point to the causes of traumatic cardiac arrest: decompression of pericardial tamponade, control of cardiac hemorrhage, performance of internal cardiac massage, cross-clamping of the descending thoracic ...

Lateral thoracotomies include many different variants with a common final pathway, consisting of an intercostal incision. They are the most frequent incisions in daily thoracic procedures. We will describe first the standard posterolateral thoracotomy, which has been the classic reference and then the muscle-sparing posterolateral thoracotomy. Surgical

Lateral thoracotomies include many different variants with a common final pathway, consisting of an intercostal incision. They are the most frequent incisions in daily thoracic procedures. Axillary thoracotomy has increased the interest in muscle-sparing approaches. Surgical techniques, indications, pitfalls and tips are described.

If post-thoracotomy pain is the target, Integrated Thoracotomy is the choice
General Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2019Despite the overgrowth of procedures done by VATS, there are still needs for thoracotomy. Post-thoracotomy pain plays an important role in many post-operative morbidities. Surgeons should make efforts to evolve new techniques to reduce post-thoracotomy pain with its associated morbidities.

Abstract Thoracotomy pain, if untreated, is excruciating and risks acute and chronic complications. Muscle dissection, rib retraction and intercostal nerve damage activate nociceptors. Management is challenging particularly with pre-existing respiratory and co-morbid disease.

Regimen for a Thoracotomy Patient
The American Journal of Nursing, 1967The authors use the word, "regimen," meaning "regular pattern of action," but the patient who has had chest surgery may feel he is the victim of a dictatorial "regime," for his nurse must insist that he cough, turn, exercise, and get out of bed and walk, bottles and all, night and day.

Vertical thoracotomy versus conventional posterolateral thoracotomy
Menoufia Medical Journal, 2016Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of vertical thoracotomy as a thoracic approach.
