Phylogenomic approach to integrative taxonomy resolves a century‐old taxonomic puzzle and the evolutionary history of the Acromyrmex octospinosus species complex

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 3, Page 469-494, July 2025.
A comprehensive, integrative study approach combining morphology, population genetics, phylogenetics and biogeography revealed that the Acromyrmex octospinosus species complex consists of two species: A. octospinosus and its social parasite A. insinuator.

Molecular phylogeny of the tribe Luciini (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae): systematics and life history evolution

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 3, Page 519-539, July 2025.
Phylogeny of the butterfly tribe Luciini showing Bayesian chronogram of evolution inferred with BEAST 1.10.4 and new monotypic genus Paradipsas Braby, gen. nov. Luciini are obligatorily associated with ants. Ant associations (subfamily and genus) with larvae of each butterfly species are indicated by tip circle colours. Ant attendance appears to be the

An insect †Archaeopteryx: Cretaceous amber fossil elucidates the evolution of complex host detection and ovipositor mechanisms in parasitoid woodwasps (Hymenoptera: Orussoidea)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 3, Page 630-645, July 2025.
We describe †Cretovelona orussopteryx n. gen. & sp. from Kachin amber. The fossil is examined with synchrotron scanning and integrated into an existing morphological data set for Orussoidea. This fossil parasitoid wasp displays a unique character combination demonstrating intermediate conditions in evolving the complex features employed in echo ...

From Allergy to Angina: A Unique Presentation of Kounis Syndrome

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 105, Issue 7, Page 1707-1710, June 1, 2025.
ABSTRACT Kounis syndrome (KS) is a rare condition characterized by acute coronary syndrome (ACS) triggered by an allergic reaction. This report presents a case of high‐risk ACS associated with a food allergy. A 53‐year‐old male with no prior medical history presented to the emergency department with itching, facial swelling, chest tightness, shortness ...

Assessment of a Social Media‐Based Method for Determining Raptor Diet

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2025.
This study mined social media as a citizen science method to reduce the time burden and biases associated with recording accurate diet information for predators. In total, 1985 prey observations were recorded of two Australian coastal raptors and were used to produce diet profiles that were compared by region, social media platform, and against other ...
