Recovery of thorium from uranium solutions

JOM, 1966
At Elliot Lake, Ontario, thorium has been recovered from uranium ore leach solutions, after removal of the uranium by ion exchange resin, since 1959. A solvent extraction process is used, and the thorium is recovered as thorium sulfate by stripping the loaded solvent with moderately strong sulfuric acid.

Recovery of Ra-223 from natural thorium irradiated by protons

Radiochimica Acta, 2016
AbstractIrradiation of natural thorium with medium-energy protons is considered to be a prospective approach to large-scale production of225Ac and223Ra. In addition to the earlier-developed method of225Ac isolation, the present work focuses on the simultaneous recovery of.223Ra from the same thorium target.

Recovery of uranium and thorium from zirconium oxychloride by solvent extraction

Journal of Radioanalytical and Nuclear Chemistry, 2011
A solvent extraction process is proposed to recover uranium and thorium from the crystal waste solutions of zirconium oxychloride. The extraction of iron from hydrochloride medium with P350, the extraction of uranium from hydrochloride with N235, and the extraction of thorium from the mixture solutions of nitric acid and the hydrochloric acid with P350

Recovery of Uranium, Thorium and Cerium from Egyptian monazite sands. I

Zeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, 1970
AbstractA process is described for the recovery of uranium, thorium and cerium from Egyptian monazite sands. The process consisted of: 1. Treatment of fine ground monazite sands with hot 50% caustic soda solution with a caustic soda to monazite sand ratio of 1:1. 2.

Recovery of Protactinium from Irradiated Thorium Nitrate by Solvent Extraction

Radiochemistry
Recovery of protactinium from irradiated thorium nitrate by solvent extraction is studied in relation to the blanket conditions of a fusion neutron source (FNS) using -octanol and diisobutylcarbinol (DIBC) as extractants. The degree of extraction of Pa from a solution of irradiated thorium nitrate (600 g/dm) in 3 M nitric acid in one contact exceeded ...

Recovery of thorium (IV) from leached monazite solutions using counter-current extraction

International Journal of Mineral Processing, 2007
Abstract A flow sheet was developed to recover thorium from Egyptian monazite sands. The results of a detailed investigation on the extraction and stripping of thorium in the hydrous oxide are obtained after alkaline dissolution followed by leaching with alkaline carbonate solutions.

Immobilization and Recovery of Thorium, A Neptunium Surrogate, using Phase-Separated Glasses

MRS Proceedings, 1996
ABSTRACTThe Savannah River Site has the majority of the United States' supply of neptunium currently stored in an acid solution in one of their canyon facilities. A program is being developed that could be utilized to ship this material, as glass, to Oak Ridge National Laboratory ...
