Effects of Atom Search-Optimized Thornthwaite Potential Evapotranspiration on Root and Shoot Systems in Controlled Carica papaya Cultivation

open access: yesAgronomy, 2023
Potential evapotranspiration (PET) indicates if a cultivation area is suitable for planting. Currently, site-specific PET models that are based on large geographic regions are vulnerable to inaccurate predictions as a result of climate change and sudden ...

Decoupling Groundwater Trends From Climatic Drivers: Evidence of Human‐Dominated Aquifer Dynamics in a Mediterranean Island

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
Long‐term piezometric analysis of 18 monitoring wells in Menorca (1984–2020) reveals that 14 wells show declining groundwater trends despite neutral or positive climatic water balance signals. Multi‐scale SPEI–SGI correlation analysis confirms widespread climate–groundwater decoupling, driven by sustained over‐abstraction rather than reduced recharge ...

Thornthwaite climate classification of TurkeyTürkiye Thornthwaite iklim sınıflandırması

open access: yesJournal of Human Sciences, 2016
It is possible to see different climatic types together in Turkey having very different habitats, ecosystems and environmental media by the mathematical and special position where it is located in. The creation of large-scale weather maps and databases to reflect this diversity is necessary for the clarification of the elements that are affected by ...

Spatiotemporal Evolution of Hydroclimatic Variables in the Brazilian Semi‐Arid Region Through the Aridity Index and Susceptibility to Desertification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 8, 30 June 2026.
Over the past 60 years, noticeable changes have been observed in the main hydroclimatological variables, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors. In the context of climate change, such behaviour may adversely affect the state's economic activities, as well as increase the recurrence of extreme events in the region.

Volcanic Forcing Amplifies Extreme Wet‐to‐Dry in Pre‐Flood South China Driven by Internal Variability

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 11, 16 June 2026.
Abstract Dry‐wet whiplash events profoundly impact society and the environment, yet their attribution remain poorly understood. This study reveals that the unprecedented interannual wet‐to‐dry transition (return period: 979.2 years) in South China's 1962–1963 pre‐flood season is co‐driven by internal variability and volcanic forcing.

Variability of the Climate in Athens‐Greece Over the Last 165 Years of the Period 1858–2023: An Assessment Based on Thornthwaite's Climate Classification and Relevant Indices

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 46, Issue 7, 15 June 2026.
Athens' climate according to Thorthwaite is stable despite warming trends. Athens' climate remains semi‐arid and mesothermal over 165 years. Strong increases in evapotranspiration and stable precipitation were found. Soil water storage capacity affects water deficits but not aridity type.

Variation in Climate Shapes Seedling Recruitment Along Resource Gradients in a Northern Hardwood Forest

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 2, June 2026.
Seedling counts over 26 years revealed that wetter‐site temperate tree species struggle to recruit in warmer, drier years, whereas drier‐site species are more climate‐tolerant. Shadier forests buffered seedlings from heat and drought. Local soils and canopy cover strongly shaped outcomes, revealing considerable differences among species in climate ...
