The present study was aimed at assessing the concentrations of Rn and Th gases in the indoor air of residential homes in urban and rural areas near the active faults in Yazd province. Sampling and measurements were performed for 6 months (autumn and winter) in 2024 using the RAD7 device.

Size normalizing planktonic Foraminifera abundance in the water column
Abstract Planktonic Foraminifera have been collected from the water column with different plankton sampling devices equipped with nets of various mesh sizes, which impedes direct comparison of observed quantifications. Here, we use data on the community size structure of planktonic Foraminifera to assess the impact of mesh size on the measured ...

Long-term monitoring of radon (222Rn) and thoron (220Rn) radioactive gases has been used in earthquake forecasting. Seismic activity before earthquakes raises the levels of these gases, causing abnormalities in the baseline values of radon and thoron ...

Radon. Advanced regulatory approaches to public radiation protection
Currently in the Russian Federation the procedure for revision of the national regulatory documents (Radiation Safety Standards (NRB-99/2009) and Basic Sanitary Rules for Ensuring Radiation Safety (OS-PORB 99/2010) has been initiated. In this regard, the

THORON-SCOUT - first diffusion based active Radon and Thoron monitor
THORON-SCOUT is a stand-alone diffusion based active Radon and Thoron monitor for long term indoor measurements to evaluate the human health risk due to activity concentration in the breathing air. Alpha-particle spectroscopy of Po isotopes, being the progeny of the decay of the radioactive noble gas Radon, is applied to separately monitor activity ...

Measurement method studies on radon and radon-thoron progeny
Radon and thoron exposure represents the largest component of public radiation dose from natural sources. While radon and thoron gases themselves contribute to this exposure, their short-lived decay products account for the majority of the effective dose.

RADON AND THORON PROGENY IN DUTCH DWELLINGS
Radon and thoron progenies in Dutch dwellings cause ~400 cases of lung cancer per year. Some 30% of the risk is due to thoron progeny, which demonstrates that the influence of thoron progeny is much larger than previously anticipated. This was concluded from a national survey in 2500 Dutch dwellings, built since 1930.

Measurements of Thoron in the Atmosphere
A study has been made on a method for calibrating the ionization current to be determined when measuring thoron concentration with an ionization chamber. The ionization current generated by the thoron exhausted from RdTh solution would appear to be controlled mainly by the bubbling velocity in the bottle, and the reciprocal of the current is a linear ...

Building materials, such as brick and concrete, are known indoor radon (222Rn) and thoron (220Rn) sources. Most radon and thoron exhalation studies are based on the laboratory testing of pieces and blocks of such materials.
