Detecting Anomalies in Radon and Thoron Time Series Data Using Kernel and Wavelet Density Estimation Methods

open access: yesGeosciences
Long-term monitoring of radon (222Rn) and thoron (220Rn) radioactive gases has been used in earthquake forecasting. Seismic activity before earthquakes raises the levels of these gases, causing abnormalities in the baseline values of radon and thoron ...

The Estimated Annual Effective Dose Caused By Radon and Thoron Gases in the Vicinity of Active Faults in the North East of Iran

open access: yesIranian South Medical Journal, 2017
Background: Active faults are actually the most important factor in the entry of radon and thoron to the surface of Earth. The location of residential areas on these faults is one of the main reasons for increasing the concentration of these radioactive ...

Outdoor radon and thoron in an area with naturally ventilating bedrock fractures

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science
Open fractures lead to increased permeability of the bedrock, and, if connected to the surface, allow for groundwater flow and air ventilation. Radon and thoron received by groundwater and ventilating air from bedrock can then be released at the surface.

THORON-SCOUT - first diffusion based active Radon and Thoron monitor

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2016
THORON-SCOUT is a stand-alone diffusion based active Radon and Thoron monitor for long term indoor measurements to evaluate the human health risk due to activity concentration in the breathing air. Alpha-particle spectroscopy of Po isotopes, being the progeny of the decay of the radioactive noble gas Radon, is applied to separately monitor activity ...

New guidelines on radiation survey and sanitary assessment of residential, public and industrial buildings and facilities in terms of radiation safety indicators. Part 2

open access: yesРадиационная гигиена
The paper (in two parts) presents an overview of the new guidelines MR 2.6.1.0333-23 (approved on 01 December 2023) that supersede guidelines MU 2.6.1.2838-11, which were used for organizing radiation surveys of residential, public and industrial ...

RADON AND THORON PROGENY IN DUTCH DWELLINGS

open access: yesRadiation Protection Dosimetry, 2018
Radon and thoron progenies in Dutch dwellings cause ~400 cases of lung cancer per year. Some 30% of the risk is due to thoron progeny, which demonstrates that the influence of thoron progeny is much larger than previously anticipated. This was concluded from a national survey in 2500 Dutch dwellings, built since 1930.

Indoor radon and thoron levels in some residences of Sri Renga Narayana Puram Village, Tirunelveli, India, using solid-state nuclear track detectors

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment
The indoor radon and thoron measurements were carried out at Sri Renga Narayana Puram village, Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu, which is located nearer to the Nuclear Power Plant, Kudankulam.

Integrating Radon/Thoron and Gamma Radiation Exposure for a Realistic Estimation of Dose Arising from Building Materials

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Long-term exposure to radon, thoron, and gamma radiation from building materials poses a significant health risk to occupants. Current methods for estimating radiation doses often fail to consider the combined impact of these sources.

Measurements of Thoron in the Atmosphere

open access: yesJournal of the Atomic Energy Society of Japan / Atomic Energy Society of Japan, 1972
A study has been made on a method for calibrating the ionization current to be determined when measuring thoron concentration with an ionization chamber. The ionization current generated by the thoron exhausted from RdTh solution would appear to be controlled mainly by the bubbling velocity in the bottle, and the reciprocal of the current is a linear ...

Assessment of radon/thoron exhalation rate in the soil samples of Amritsar and Tarn Taran district of Punjab state

open access: yesRadiation Protection and Environment, 2018
In the present study, the radon mass and thoron surface exhalation rates have been measured in the soil samples collected from the villages of the Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts of Punjab using the active portable device, i.e., SMART RnDuo monitor to ...
