Radon and Thoron exhalation rates in soil near coal mines in Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh

Applied Radiation and Isotopes
The purpose of this study was to assess the amounts of radon and thoron gas emissions from soil in the vicinity of coal mines within the Shahdol region of Madhya Pradesh, which is in India. We collected and analyzed 50 distinct soil samples to carry out the study. The SMART RnDuo device (produced by AQTEK SYSTEMS) was used to measure the thoron surface

Thoron exhalation rates in areas of Japan

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2010
Thoron exhalation rates were measured with a newly made portable instrument at 33 areas in 7 prefectures of Japan. Thoron exhalation rates ranged from 49 to 4890 mBq m(-2) s(-1). Radon exhalation rates were also measured in many of the areas at the same time and ranged from 2.1 to 11 mBq m(-2) s(-1).

Measurement of Thoron Exhalation Rates from Building Materials

Health Physics, 2014
Thoron (220Rn) exhalation from building materials has become increasingly recognized as a potential source for radiation exposure in dwellings. However, contrary to radon (220Rn), limited information on thoron exposure is available. The purpose of this study is to develop a test method for the determination of the thoron exhalation rate from building ...

Characteristics of radon and thoron exhalation rates in Okinawa, subtropical region of Japan

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2012
Radon and thoron exhalation rates from the ground surface were estimated in three islands of Okinawa Prefecture, a subtropical region of Japan. In situ measurements of the exhalation rates were conducted at a total of 88 points using an accumulation technique with a ZnS(Ag) scintillation detector.

Measurement of radon/thoron exhalation rates and gamma-ray dose rate in granite areas in Japan

Radiation Protection Dosimetry, 2012
Radon and thoron exhalation rates and gamma-ray dose rate in different places in Hiroshima Prefecture were measured. Exhalation rates were measured using an accumulation chamber method. The radon exhalation rate was found to vary from 3 to 37 mBq m(-2) s(-1), while the thoron exhalation rate ranged from 40 to 3330 mBq m(-2) s(-1).

Influence of thoron on measurement results of radon exhalation rate

2012
Because of thoron exhalation, the measurement results of radon exhalation rate using a local still method is usually larger than the true value of radon flux rate of the monitored material surface. The influence of 216Po (ThA) on radon exhalation rate can be eliminated for sensitive radon monitors.

Simultaneous measurement of radon and thoron exhalation rate from soil and building materials

2005
Publisher Summary This chapter presents two methods for simultaneous measurement of radon and thoron exhalation from soil and building materials: (1) charcoal adsorption, (2) Lucas cell methods. Both methods are applicable especially in the case of a soil flux enhanced in thoron gas.
