Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

A Chirality‐Converted Bacteriolytic Dodecapeptide Regulates Vibrio‐Induced Polymicrobial Infection and Ameliorates Invasion‐Associated Gut Microbiota Disequilibrium

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multidrug‐resistant Vibrio infections are rising rapidly and threaten coastal populations worldwide. This study introduces D‐zp37, a chirality‐engineered antimicrobial peptide with exceptional potency against resistant Vibrio species. D‐zp37 kills planktonic cells, blocks mixed‐species biofilms, disrupts essential bacterial stress responses, and shows ...

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Managing coextinction of insects in a changing climate [PDF]

open access: yes
Approximately a quarter of global terrestrial biodiversity is represented by plant dwelling insects and the potential for thousands of species to be extinguished through widespread disturbances such as a changing climate is high. From a large database of

Sharks - The State of the Science [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The biological characteristics of sharks make them particularly vulnerable to overfishing. They grow slowly, become sexually mature relatively late and produce few offspring.

NQO1‐Mediated Anoikis Resistance and Immune Evasion Define a High‐Risk Multi‐Omic Subtype for Precision Management of T1 High‐Grade Bladder Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multi‐omic profiling of T1 high‐grade bladder cancer identifies a high‐risk subtype (T1HG1) driven by NQO1, which couples anoikis resistance with immune evasion. NQO1 orchestrates macrophage–T cell crosstalk suppression via CXCL9 modulation. Pharmacological NQO1 inhibition with skullcapflavone II enhances cisplatin efficacy, representing a promising ...

A Look at Threatened Species [PDF]

open access: yesOryx, 1960
To preserve the last surviving remnants of gravely endangered species of fauna and flora from total extinction becomes more urgent every day, as the spread of civilization takes over their native habitat. In 1931, when the American Committee for International Wild Life Protection was established, it focused attention on the need for gathering ...

Threatened bryophytes of the neotropical rain forest : a status report [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
Tropical deforestation, inevitably, leads to the local loss of bryophyte species. Recent studies show that the degree of species loss may vary considerably and depends on the scale or amount of habitat change that has occurred.

Glomage: A Multimodal Platform for High‐Content Morphological and RNA Profiling of Glomeruli in Zebrafish and Mouse Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Understanding how glomeruli, the kidney's filtration units, function in intact tissue remains challenging. Glomage enables rapid 3D imaging and quantitative analysis of entire glomeruli from zebrafish larvae and mice. This approach allows scalable cell quantification and detection of structural changes, advancing kidney disease research and ...

Impacts of Population and Income Growth Rates on Threatened Mammals and Birds [PDF]

open access: yes
Per capita income and human population levels in a country have direct influences on its environmental outcomes. Countries with same level of income may have different rate of income growth and vice versa, suggesting that the influence of the rate of ...
