Volume measurements in three‐dimensional microscopy [PDF]
AbstractA refractive index mismatch between the oil immersion and the microscopic object can lead to a severe over‐estimation of the object's size. The cause of this effect is explained and a simple calibration method to compensate for its occurrence is presented. A practical example is discussed.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Vertex‐level three‐dimensional shape deformability measurement based on line segment advection
Measuring the intrinsic deformability of arbitrary small‐scale subdivision of a shape is an interesting meanwhile valuable research topic. Such measurement can be directly utilised as a reliable criteria to partition shape into small components and then ...

Three-dimensional wake measurements
The performance of a hot wire probe with three wires is investigated for two different flow cases. The wires are made of a platinum/rhodium alloy, and has a diameter of 5 micrometer. The three wires make a probe volume with acrossection of approximately 5 mm.

Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Evaluation of the effect of different core substrates on the accuracy of intraoral scanners
Background The aim of this study was to determine if different types of core substrates have any effect on the trueness and precision of digital intraoral impressions. Material and Methods A customized typodont with four similar cores of natural dentine,

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...
