Three-dimensional characteristics of the mitochondria of the rat nephron
Three-dimensional characteristics of the mitochondria of the rat nephron. We propose a new model for the mitochondrion of the proximal and distal nephron. The introduction of a new block-staining technique allowed us to observe mitochondria in thick sections (0.5 to 1.5 µm) with a standard transmission electron microscope (80 to 100kV).

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
