Thermal stresses in metal–ceramic specimens for the ISO crack initiation test (three-point flexure bond test)

Dental Materials, 1998
At the October 1996 meeting of the ISO/TC106/SC 2/WG 1 working group, a special three-point flexure test for the characterization of the metal-ceramic bond was incorporated in the standard (ISO CD 9693). Due to the fabrication process, like real porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) restorations, the specimens contain thermal (eigen-) stresses upon which the ...

Influence of bending rotations on three and four-point bend end notched flexure tests

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2008
Abstract It has been experimentally observed that mode II critical energy release rate (GIIC) values determined by four-point end notched flexure test and three-point end notched flexure test are different for the same material. At the present work correction factors related to bending rotations are introduced to explain the differences between ...

A three-point flexure test configuration for improved sensitivity to metal/ adhesive interfacial phenomena

International Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 1982
Abstract A three-point flexure test was used to evaluate the effects of chemical surface treatments on the performance of adhesively-bonded structures of Ti6A14V. A single adherend/adhesive structure rather than a double adherend sandwich configuration is shown to be sensitive to pre-bonding adherend surface treatments.

Macromechanical Characteristics Deduced from Three-Point Flexure Tests on Unidirectional Carbon/Epoxy Composites

Mechanics of Composite Materials, 2003
Effects of different factors on the measured values of flexural modulus and flexural strength of unidirectional carbon/epoxy composites are investigated. This allows a correct interpretation of the results of flexural macromechanical properties obtained in three-point flexure tests.

Metal-adhesive bonded systems: Adhesion measurement using a three point flexure test

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 1987
Single metallic adherend-adhesive bonded specimens are subjected to a three point flexure test in order to investigate the effects of adherend surface conditioning and adhesive curing conditions on the mechanical properties of the substrate-adhesive interfacial region. The main advantage of this test over more conventional ones (i.e.

Measurement of the practical adhesion of paint coatings to metallic sheets by the pull-off and three-point flexure tests

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 1994
In this paper, we compare the practical adhesion measurements of alkyd, vinyl, epoxy, and polyurethane paints on cold-rolled steel using the pull-off and three-point flexure tests. It has been shown that (a) in the pull-off test, the ultimate load and ultimate strain values depend on the stud area.

The Use of Robotics to Eliminate Testing Variability in the Evaluation of Polymeric Matrix Composites Subjected to Three-Point Flexure

Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 1993
Abstract A set of 54 flexural specimens of unidirectional AS-4 graphite reinforced J-2 Polymer, an amorphous thermoplastic polymeric matrix, was tested via a robotic testing setup. Because the testing was robot performed, it is here claimed that the variation of the test results is produced by the variability of the material and not by ...

Experimental and simulation studies on flexural strength of laminated glass using ring-on-ring and three-point bending test

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2017
Flexural strength of laminated glass is noteworthy in architectural, glazing, automotive safety, photo-voltaic, and decorative applications. The flexural strength of laminated glass samples having polyvinyl butyral/ethyl vinyl acetate interlayer of different critical thickness (0.38/0.76/1.52 mm) was determined by ring-on-ring test following the ASTM ...

Mode II fracture mechanics properties of solid wood measured by the three-point eccentric end-notched flexure test

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2015
Abstract A three-point eccentric end-notched flexure test was conducted using specimens of western hemlock to determine the fracture mechanics properties under Mode II conditions while extending the crack length range for stabilising the crack propagation.
