Effects of smoking on thermal pain threshold in deprived and minimally-deprived habitual smokers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
This study examined the antinociceptive effects of smoking in nine habitual smokers under deprived (12 h) and minimally-deprived (< 30min) conditions. Pain threshold for thermal stimuli, heart rate, blood pressure and ratings of mood, arousal, dominance ...

Insights on Advances in 3D Bioprinting for Peripheral Nerve Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Peripheral nerve injury is a common condition due to trauma that significantly impacts the life of the affected individual. This review explores the anatomy, classification, and pathophysiology of peripheral nerve injuries. It also discusses various types of nerve conduits and presents a detailed review of 3D bioprinted nerve conduits used in both in ...

STAL: Spike Threshold Adaptive Learning Encoder for Classification of Pain-Related Biosignal Data [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
This paper presents the first application of spiking neural networks (SNNs) for the classification of chronic lower back pain (CLBP) using the EmoPain dataset. Our work has two main contributions. We introduce Spike Threshold Adaptive Learning (STAL), a trainable encoder that effectively converts continuous biosignals into spike trains.

The Effect of Interval and Continued Trainings with Citrus Aurantium on Pain Threshold and Motor Balance in Elderly Rats

open access: yesJorjani Biomedicine Journal, 2022
Background and objectives: Aging is a natural phenomenon associated with a decrease in physical fitness factors and increases in chronic pain. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of High Interval Intensity Training (HIIT) and Moderate ...

Pain Analysis, in Premature Infants, Using Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Background: The role of neonatal pain on the developing nervous system is not completely understood, but evidence suggests that sensory pathways are influenced by an infants pain experience. Research has shown that an infants previous pain experiences lead to an increased, and likely abnormal, response to subsequent painful stimuli.

Programmable NIR Responsive Nanocomposite Enables Noninvasive Intratympanic Delivery of Dexamethasone to Reverse Cisplatin Induced Hearing Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, saponin‐coated silica@gold nanocarriers responsive to NIR radiation is developed to enhance intratympanic drug delivery for cisplatin‐induced hearing loss (CIHL) treatment. The biocompatibility and oto‐protective properties are validated both in vitro and in vivo.
