Determinants of thermal pain thresholds in normal subjects
Clinical Neurophysiology, 2008Measurement of thermal pain thresholds is an essential part of quantitative sensory testing (QST). However, databases of QST show limitations due to large inter-individual variations including unreasonably low thresholds for thermal pain, lack of data on intra-individual variations over time and on the subjects' perception at threshold.

Experimental Pain Thresholds Influenced by Sex of Experimenter
Perceptual and Motor Skills, 2005Thresholds for pressure pain were tested in 64 adult human subjects (age: M = 22.0 yr., SD = 7.5). The subjects were young adults drawn from a student population. They were divided into two groups of men and two groups of women, with 16 participants in each group.

Influence of age on thermal thresholds, thermal pain thresholds, and reaction time
Journal of Clinical Neuroscience, 2010The main goals of this study were to investigate the effect of age on thermal and thermal pain thresholds and reaction time, and to analyze the influence of age-related changes in reaction time on thermal and thermal pain thresholds. Thermal thresholds (warm/cold) and thermal pain thresholds (hot/cold) were evaluated by the method of limits.

Psychophysical Differentiation of Pain by Threshold Methods
1992Pain represents an unpleasant, distressing, and agonizing sensation. It cannot be described in terms of perception only, but refers to a complex experience with concomitant psychophysical components. Acute pain serves warning and protection functions, whereas chronic pain is also characterized by emotional reactions such as anxiety and depression ...

[Trial assessment of pain threshold].
Journal of cardiology, 1993To elucidate the pathological aspects of silent myocardial ischemia, we studied 24 patients with ischemic heart disease who had culprit lesions in the left anterior descending artery (LAD). We determined the presence of myocardial ischemia and measured coronary wedge pressures (CWP; mmHg) and collateral circulation and ST deviation on the ECG ...
