The Innovation Threshold [PDF]
In this paper, we propose an economic model to analyse the sales out of new products. This model accounts for the fact that even among firms for which R&D is a permanent activity, a fraction of firms does not have sales of innovative products during a two-year observation period.

Many physiological, biomechanical, evolutionary and clinical studies that explore skeletal structure and function require successful separation of trabecular from cortical compartments of a bone that has been imaged by X-ray micro-computed tomography ...

Threshold queries are an important class of queries that only require computing or counting answers up to a specified threshold value. To the best of our knowledge, threshold queries have been largely disregarded in the research literature, which is surprising considering how common they are in practice.

Covariance regularization by thresholding [PDF]
This paper considers regularizing a covariance matrix of $p$ variables estimated from $n$ observations, by hard thresholding. We show that the thresholded estimate is consistent in the operator norm as long as the true covariance matrix is sparse in a ...

On the threshold of intractability [PDF]
We study the computational complexity of the graph modification problems Threshold Editing and Chain Editing, adding and deleting as few edges as possible to transform the input into a threshold (or chain) graph. In this article, we show that both problems are NP-complete, resolving a conjecture by Natanzon, Shamir, and Sharan (Discrete Applied ...

Canopy gap delineation using UAV data in a Hyrcanian forest (Case study: Shastklateh Forest) [PDF]
Canopy gap delineation is essential for achieving a better comprehension of forest structure. This study aims to (a) extract canopy gaps using UAV data and (b) compare the performance of different canopy gap extraction methods in a managed stand in the ...

IoT-Based Information System for Healthcare Application: Design Methodology Approach
Over the last few decades, life expectancy has increased significantly. However, elderly people who live on their own often need assistance due to mobility difficulties, symptoms of dementia or other health problems.

Locally Adaptive Tree-Based Thresholding Using the treethresh Package in R
This paper introduces the treethresh package offering accurate estimation, via thresholding, of potentially sparse heterogeneous signals and the denoising of images using wavelets.
