Registros documentados del Corocoro Escarlata (Eudocimus ruber Linnaeus, 1758; Aves: Threskiornithidae) en Loreto, Perú

open access: yesCiencia Amazónica (Iquitos), 2020

Assessment of a Social Media-Based Method for Determining Raptor Diet. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
This study mined social media as a citizen science method to reduce the time burden and biases associated with recording accurate diet information for predators. In total, 1985 prey observations were recorded of two Australian coastal raptors and were used to produce diet profiles that were compared by region, social media platform, and against other ...

Hematology and Blood Chemistry Reference Values of Captive Adult Black-Faced Ibis (Theristicus melanopis melanopis) [PDF]

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Hematology and blood chemistry reference values in wildlife animals are considered a key element to evaluate their health and welfare status. The incidence of birds rescued is increasing, thus, rehabilitation centers worldwide need valid reference values

Molecular phylogeny of Threskiornithidae (Aves: Pelecaniformes) based on nuclear and mitochondrial DNA.

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Research, 2013
The family Threskiornithidae includes 13 genera and 32 species, and it is traditionally divided into 2 subfamilies: Plataleinae and Threskiornithinae. We present a phylogenetic reconstruction to test the monophyly of currently accepted subfamilies, including 15 species from both subfamilies and 10 genera of family Threskiornithidae.

The anatomy of the bill tip of kiwi and associated somatosensory regions of the brain: comparisons with shorebirds. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Three families of probe-foraging birds, Scolopacidae (sandpipers and snipes), Apterygidae (kiwi), and Threskiornithidae (ibises, including spoonbills) have independently evolved long, narrow bills containing clusters of vibration-sensitive ...

Satellite telemetry reveals complex mixed movement strategies in ibis and spoonbills of Australia: implications for water and wetland management [PDF]

open access: yesMovement Ecology
Waterbird population and species diversity maintenance are important outcomes of wetland conservation management, but knowledge gaps regarding waterbird movements affect our ability to understand and predict waterbird responses to management at ...

Good vibrations: remote‐tactile foraging success of wading birds is positively affected by the water content of substrates they forage in

open access: yesJournal of Avian Biology
Some taxa of wading birds can locate buried prey by detecting vibratory cues in their foraging substrates while probe‐foraging, using a sensory modality called ‘remote‐touch'. As more saturated substrates transmit vibrations better, we predict that these
