Thrips on fabaceous plants and weeds in an ecotone in northeastern Brazil

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2015
: Thrips (Thysanoptera) on 33 species of Fabaceae (ornamental and forage) and some weed species were surveyed in areas of caatinga-cerrado ecotone in northeastern Brazil. Twenty species of thrips were identified, all of which are associated for the first

Alternative Food for Litter‐Inhabiting Predators Decreases Thrips Densities and Above‐Ground Plant Damage

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
We studied predatory soil mites that control the thrips Frankliniella occidentalis. Thrips densities were significantly reduced by the predator Cosmolaelaps sabelisi. It presumably feeds on prepupae and pupae in the soil and on larvae aboveground.

An illustrated key to species of the genus Thrips Linnaeus (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) from Iran, with an updated checklist [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Insect Biodiversity and Systematics, 2016
The genus Thrips Linnaeus (Thripidae: Thripinae) is one of the largest groups of thrips in Iran, which include some important pests. Majority species of the genus Thrips are herbivorous living on leaves and flowers on different plant families.

Influence of weather parameters on population dynamics of thrips and mites on summer season cowpea in Eastern Plateau and Hill region of India

open access: yesJournal of Agrometeorology, 2016
Population dynamics of thrips, Megaleurothrips distalis (Karny) and mites, Tetranychus spp. were studied on summer season cowpea crop during 2013-2014 in Eastern Plateau and Hill region of India.

Thrips domiciles protect larvae from desiccation in an arid environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Desiccation is a particular risk for small animals in arid environments. In response, many organisms “construct niches,” favorable microenvironments where they spend part or all of their life cycle. Some maintain such environments for their offspring via

A Non‐Destructive Method for Sex Identification in a Tubuliferan Thrips

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Accurate sex identification of the biological control agent Pseudophilothrips ichini Hood (Thysanoptera: Phlaeothripidae) is a useful tool for colony management and experimental applications in biological control. Destructive methods of sex identification limit specimen usage, prompting the need for a sex identification method for live thrips.

The Distribution of Natural Enemies of the Corn Leaf Aphid (Homoptera: Aphdidae) on Field Corn [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
(excerpt) The corn leaf aphid (CLA), Rhopalosiphum maidis (Fitch), is found on field corn in the midwest Cnited States each year. Except for infrequent and scattered outbreaks, CLA populations remain at low levels. Injury to corn occurs during tasseling (

Thrips

open access: yes, 2013
Thrips diversity on Suaeda plants In addition to three Aeolothrips species discussed here, two other species (Ankothrips zayandicus and Haplothrips herajus) were recently described from Suaeda sp. (Minaei et al. 2012; Minaei & Aleosfoor 2013). Moreover, large numbers of Eremiothrips varius have also been found on this plant (Minaei et al.

Expansion of invasive carabids across elevation and habitats on sub‐Antarctic South Georgia

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, EarlyView.
Two introduced carabid species have continued to expand their ranges on the sub‐Antarctic island of South Georgia over the past 10–15 years. The species have colonised inland valleys and are present across habitats but are more abundant in those with high vegetation cover. N‐mixture models revealed the optimal sampling method, intensity and habitat for

Preference and performance of western flower thrips [PDF]

open access: yes
Differences in performance on, and preference for, different plant parts were studied on cucumber plants. On these plants thrips are often most abundant on the youngest plant parts.
