Thrips palmi är en fruktad tripsart som orsakar svåra skador på ett stort antal växtslag och som dessutom är vektor för den allvarliga virussjukdomen bronsfläcksjuka, som orsakas av Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV), se även amerikansk blomtrips, 137 T och bronsfläcksjuka, 155 T. Förekomst av T. palmi har hittills inte konstaterats i Sverige.
