Thrombocytopenia in Leptospirosis
The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1982In a retrospective study undertaken to document the frequency of thrombocytopenia in cases of leptospirosis, 18 of 32 patients (56.3%) had a platelet count of 100 x 10(3)/mm3 or less. Renal failure occurred in 72.2% of thrombocytopenic patients and in 21.4% of patients with normal platelet counts.

Thrombocytopenia is a relatively common side effect of drug therapy. The pathogenetic mechanisms of drug-induced thrombocytopenia are varied and sometimes poorly understood. Immunologic and other cytotoxic effects may result in decreased production and/or increased destruction of platelets. The pathogenesis of drug-induced thrombocytopenia is reviewed.

THROMBOCYTOPENIA IN THE NEONATE
Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1996Pediatricians caring for newborns will eventually be confronted with the problem of thrombocytopenia in the neonatal period. Familiarity with the differential diagnosis of neonatal thrombocytopenia and understanding the pathogenesis of the more common entities allows physicians to design a selective diagnostic and therapeutic plan to benefit these ...

Splenectomy for thrombocytopenia
World Journal of Surgery, 1985AbstractThe effects of splenectomy in 49 thrombocytopenic patients managed since 1979 were assessed and compared with our previous experience of 174 patients. Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) constitutes a common indication for splenectomy, which effects a cure in 86% of these patients.
