Thrombus Aspiration in STEMI

Current Treatment Options in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2016
ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality. In the USA, the development of an organized STEMI network has allowed STEMI patients greater access to primary PCI. The most important goal in the management of STEMI is timely reperfusion and establishment of normal coronary flow.

Thrombus Aspiration in Patients With ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction Presenting Late After Symptom Onset

open access: yesJACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, 2016
ObjectivesThe aim of this study was to examine whether manual thrombus aspiration reduces microvascular obstruction assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) presenting late after ...

Percutaneous aspiration of a coronary thrombus

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Diagnosis, 1989
AbstractRight coronary artery occlusion by a thrombus occurred during the coronary angiography performed in a patient with anterior myocardial infarction. Emergency coronary aspiration was undertaken via a 9F guiding catheter, which allowed the thrombus to be removed.

Thrombus Aspiration during Myocardial Infarction

New England Journal of Medicine, 2014
To the Editor: In the Thrombus Aspiration in ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) in Scandinavia (TASTE) trial, Frobert et al. (Oct. 24 issue)1 report that routine intracoronary thrombus aspiration before primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), as compared with PCI alone, did not reduce 30-day mortality in the study patients ...

A mechanism for stroke complicating thrombus aspiration

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, 2016
We propose a mechanism of how stroke may be caused by thrombus aspiration during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), and how it may be technique‐dependent. Two recent meta‐analyses report increased risk of stroke in patients undergoing routine thrombus aspiration during STEMI and the value of this technique has been controversial.

Histoplasma Endocarditis Diagnosed by Thrombus Aspiration

Canadian Journal of Cardiology, 2018
Negative cultures in endocarditis often lead to delays in targeted life-saving therapies. We present the case of a 68-year-old man who presented with culture-negative endocarditis, which was complicated by coronary embolization resulting in anterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Thrombus aspiration in acute myocardial infarction

Nature Reviews Cardiology, 2016
The success of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is often hampered by incomplete microvascular myocardial reperfusion owing to distal embolization of thrombus resulting in microvascular obstruction. To address this problem, thrombus aspiration devices have been developed

Thrombus aspiration in acute myocardial infarction

Catheterization and Cardiovascular Diagnosis, 1990
AbstractA 57 yr‐old man suffered an in‐hospital inferior myocardial infarction 9 yr following coronary artery bypass surgery. Emergency cardiac catheterization demonstrated a large, occlusive thrombus in the saphenous vein graft to the right coronary artery. Multiple balloon dilitations failed to lyse the thrombus.

Aspiration thrombectomy for removal of coronary thrombus

The American Journal of Cardiology, 1992
Abstract Intracoronary thrombus is usually present in acute myocardial infarction and often in unstable angina.1 At angioplasty, the presence of residual thrombus places the patient at increased risk for complications,2,3 especially total occlusion.

In Vitro Testing of a New Aspiration Thrombus Device

Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases, 2010
Mechanical thrombectomy can restore blood flow to the brain after acute ischemic stroke, but may be associated with risks, such as breakage of moving parts and clot fragmentation. The aim of this study was to evaluate a new aspiration thrombus device (ATD), the GP ATD, which has no moving parts and extracts clots by suction in a vortex flow pattern. The
