Force-Velocity Relation in Throwing

Research Quarterly. American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1973
Abstract The relationship between load and maximum velocity in throwing a ball was investigated. A velocity measurement was constructed making use of cadmium sulfide. The subjects were seven adults and six boys. They threw hand rubber balls of different weights in a horizontal plane, using their best efforts.

Effects of Throwing Overweight and Underweight Baseballs on Throwing Velocity and Accuracy

Sports Medicine, 2000
The purpose of this review is to determine how throwing overweight and underweight baseballs affects baseball throwing velocity and accuracy. Two studies examined how a warm-up with overweight baseballs affected throwing velocity and accuracy of 5 oz regulation baseballs.

Strength training for throwing velocity enhancement in overhead throw: A systematic review and meta-analysis

International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching, 2021
The overhead throw is a fundamental technical-tactical ability for overhead sports. The purposes of this review are to assess the effect of resistance training (RT) in enhancing throwing velocity in athletes and to investigate the relationships between age or gender in this effect.

Effects of Overload Training on Velocity and Accuracy of Throwing

Research Quarterly. American Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, 1967
Abstract Twenty-one male freshmen baseball players at the University of Maryland were randomly placed in three groups of equal size. Two groups supplemented a baseball throwing program by specific overload training. One group threw weighted baseballs while the other used a pulley device to resist the mechanics of throwing.

Predicting Children's Overarm Throw Ball Velocities from Their Developmental Levels in Throwing

Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 2001
This study examined the movement process-product relationship from a developmental perspective. The authors used multiple regression to investigate the changing relationship between qualitative movement descriptions of the overarm throw and the throwing outcome, horizontal ball velocity. Seventeen girls and 22 boys were filmed longitudinally at ages 6,

Longitudinal Changes in Children's Overarm Throw Ball Velocities

Research Quarterly. American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, 1979
Abstract Longitudinal changes in horizontal ball velocities of 54 children performing the overarm throw for force were examined from kindergarten through second grade using a repeated measures ANOVA. The boys' ball velocity increased by 5 feet/second each year; the girls' increased by 3 feet/second; the change over years was significant (p < .05) as ...

Effect of Resistance through a Throwing Range-of-Motion on the Velocity of a Baseball

Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1966
To determine the effect of specific isotonic resistance applied through the overhand throwing range-of-motion on the velocity of a baseball 3 groups of Ss (varsity baseball players) were studied. Group I trained for 6 wk. with an isotonic resistance device; Group II trained for 6 wk. by throwing, and Group III took the pretest and posttest only.

Mass and Velocity: Control Parameters for Throwing Patterns

Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport, 1998
The purpose of this study was to determine if change in segmental mass and increases in throwing velocity act as control parameters to alter throwing patterns. Twenty participants were categorized into four levels of throwing pattern. Each participant was required to make 10 throws at various velocities within 8 conditions.

Effect of Different Training Programs on the Velocity of Overarm Throwing: A Brief Review

The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2004
Throwing velocity in overarm throwing is of major importance in sports like baseball, team handball, javelin, and water polo. The purpose of this literature review was to give an overview of the effect of different training programs on the throwing velocity in overarm throwing, provide a theoretical framework that explains findings, and give some ...
