Thulium-doped optical fibers for fiber lasers

Photonics, Devices, and Systems VII, 2017
We present preparation and characterization of thulium-doped silica-based optical fibers for fiber lasers. The fibers were prepared by modified chemical vapor deposition process and doped with alumina and thulium ions. Alumina co-doping was achieved through two different methods – solution doping and nanoparticle doping method.

Monolithic thulium-doped fiber laser

Photonics, Devices, and Systems VII, 2017
In this contribution we report and discuss the results of laser characterizations of experimental thulium-doped optical fibers. These active fibers were fabricated in house and were tested in two laser systems to verify their characteristics. The first one, a monolithic fiber laser, was of great interest to us due to its potentially lower overall ...

Thulium-Doped Tellurite Fiber Amplifier

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2004
Gain in the S-band is demonstrated in a thulium-doped tellurite fiber amplifier using dual pump and bidirectional pumping schemes. Two pump schemes were employed: 795/1064 and 1047/1550 nm. The gain profile is broader than achieved in a fluoride fiber and overlaps with the C-band of the erbium-doped fiber amplifier. We reach a fiber-to-fiber gain of 11

Thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser

SPIE Proceedings, 1999
The thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser is emitting visible radiation through an upconversion process which allows for the generation of hundreds of milliwatts of output power at 480 nm. The main features of this laser are presented and analyzed on the basis of an equation rate analysis.

Photobleaching of thulium-doped ZBLAN fibers with visible light

Optics Letters, 1997
Photobleaching of darkened thulium-doped ZBLAN fibers is observed after short exposure to visible light. The bleaching process is characterized by a stretched-exponential function of time with an exponent beta independent of both the bleaching intensity and the thulium concentration.

Lasing in thulium-doped polarizing photonic crystal fiber

Optics Letters, 2011
We describe lasing of a thulium-doped polarizing photonic crystal fiber. A 4 m long fiber with 50 μm diameter core, 250 μm diameter cladding, and d/Λ ratio of 0.18 was pumped with a 793 nm diode and produced a polarized output with a polarization extinction ratio (PER) of 15 dB and an M(2) of

Bidirectional mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser

Applied Optics, 2018
We report a bidirectional mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser. Mode-locking is enabled by the combination of semiconductor saturable absorption and nonlinear polarization rotation. Two stable mode-locked picosecond pulse trains in opposite directions are generated with a fundamental repetition rate of ∼16.57  MHz.

Nonlinear dynamics of thulium-doped fiber lasers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2025
Ultrafast thulium-doped fiber lasers that can generate different types of dissipative solitons in the same cavity are presented together with their unique transition and nonlinear dynamics, including soliton molecule formation.

Thulium-doped fiber amplifier for the S-band

Proceedings of 2004 6th International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks (IEEE Cat. No.04EX804), 2004
Two configurations of thulium-doped fiber amplifiers (TDFA) are presented and the performance of the amplifier in these configurations is discussed. The measurements are compared with a simulation using a self-written model and compared with results reported in the literature.

Progress in thulium doped fiber lasers and aplifiers

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
We present results on the development of signal sources for the 2000 nm band. The ASE source is presented with a FWHM bandwidth of 70 nm and -20dB bandwidth of 229 nm with an integrated power of 7.5 mW. Narrow band lasers are presented made of a short piece of core-pumped thulium doped fiber and fiber Bragg gratings.
