Thulium-Doped Tellurite Fiber Amplifier
Gain in the S-band is demonstrated in a thulium-doped tellurite fiber amplifier using dual pump and bidirectional pumping schemes. Two pump schemes were employed: 795/1064 and 1047/1550 nm. The gain profile is broader than achieved in a fluoride fiber and overlaps with the C-band of the erbium-doped fiber amplifier. We reach a fiber-to-fiber gain of 11

Kerr nonlinearity of Thulium-doped fiber near 2 μm [PDF]
The nonlinear coefficient and group velocity dispersion of a thulium-doped fiber near 2μm are evaluated via four-wave mixing. Nonlinearity of thulium-doped fiber can be used for the design of doped-fiber lasers in this spectral region.

Single-frequency thulium-doped distributed-feedback fiber laser
Optics Letters, 2004We have successfully demonstrated a single-frequency distributed-feedback (DFB) thulium-doped silica fiber laser emitting at a wavelength of 1735 nm. The laser cavity is less than 5 cm long and is formed by intracore UV-written Bragg gratings with a phase shift. The laser is pumped at 790 nm from a Ti:sapphire laser and has a threshold pump power of 59

Broadband thulium-doped fiber ASE source
Optics Letters, 2020We report on a flat and broadband thulium-doped amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) fiber source working around 1.85 µm in the eye-safe spectral region. Core-pumped thulium fibers were prepared in-house using the modified chemical vapor deposition method. The amplified spontaneous emission source in a backward direction with respect to the pump and in

Photoinduced absorption in thulium-doped ZBLAN fibers
Optics Letters, 1995We report on the observation of photoinduced absorption in four different thulium-doped ZBLAN fibers exposed to 1.12-μm light. The darkening rate is shown to follow a fourth-power dependence on the pumping intensity and a strong dependence on the Tm3+ concentration.

Thulium-doped optical fibers for fiber lasers
Photonics, Devices, and Systems VII, 2017We present preparation and characterization of thulium-doped silica-based optical fibers for fiber lasers. The fibers were prepared by modified chemical vapor deposition process and doped with alumina and thulium ions. Alumina co-doping was achieved through two different methods – solution doping and nanoparticle doping method.

Monolithic thulium-doped fiber laser
Photonics, Devices, and Systems VII, 2017In this contribution we report and discuss the results of laser characterizations of experimental thulium-doped optical fibers. These active fibers were fabricated in house and were tested in two laser systems to verify their characteristics. The first one, a monolithic fiber laser, was of great interest to us due to its potentially lower overall ...

Thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser
SPIE Proceedings, 1999The thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser is emitting visible radiation through an upconversion process which allows for the generation of hundreds of milliwatts of output power at 480 nm. The main features of this laser are presented and analyzed on the basis of an equation rate analysis.

Photobleaching of thulium-doped ZBLAN fibers with visible light
Optics Letters, 1997Photobleaching of darkened thulium-doped ZBLAN fibers is observed after short exposure to visible light. The bleaching process is characterized by a stretched-exponential function of time with an exponent beta independent of both the bleaching intensity and the thulium concentration.

Lasing in thulium-doped polarizing photonic crystal fiber
Optics Letters, 2011We describe lasing of a thulium-doped polarizing photonic crystal fiber. A 4 m long fiber with 50 μm diameter core, 250 μm diameter cladding, and d/Λ ratio of 0.18 was pumped with a 793 nm diode and produced a polarized output with a polarization extinction ratio (PER) of 15 dB and an M(2) of
