Thulium fiber laser in endourology: current clinical evidence
Current Opinion in Urology, 2022Purpose of review To review and summarize preclinical and clinical data on thulium fiber laser's (TFL) effectiveness (ablation rate, stone-free rate etc.) and safety in terms of laser injuries and thermal damage. This enables us to assess how the in-vitro evidence translates into the clinical real-life scenario.

Thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser
SPIE Proceedings, 1999The thulium-doped ZBLAN fiber laser is emitting visible radiation through an upconversion process which allows for the generation of hundreds of milliwatts of output power at 480 nm. The main features of this laser are presented and analyzed on the basis of an equation rate analysis.

High Power Thulium Fiber Lasers
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010Recent years have seen a phenomenal rise in the capabilities of high power fibers lasers. 10 kW is now achievable in single‐mode fiber and the race is on to break the 100 kW mark. This has been enabled with the development of high power 976 nm pump diodes, ideally matched for efficiently exciting the ∼1030–1080 nm transition in Yb‐doped silica fibers ...

Bidirectional mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser
Applied Optics, 2018We report a bidirectional mode-locked thulium-doped fiber laser. Mode-locking is enabled by the combination of semiconductor saturable absorption and nonlinear polarization rotation. Two stable mode-locked picosecond pulse trains in opposite directions are generated with a fundamental repetition rate of ∼16.57 MHz.

Retrograde intrarenal surgery: laser showdown (Ho:YAG vs thulium fiber laser)
Current Opinion in Urology, 2022Purpose of review Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) has always been recommended for large stones > 20 mm, using the Ho:YAG laser. The introduction of a new technology in the urological market, the thulium fiber laser (TFL) has revolutionized the endourology world because of its characteristics and significantly shorter ...

High-power widely tunable thulium fiber lasers
Applied Optics, 2010Applications requiring long-range atmospheric propagation are driving the development of high-power thulium fiber lasers. We report on the performance of two different laser configurations for high-power tunable thulium fiber lasers: one is a single oscillator utilizing a volume Bragg grating for wavelength stabilization; the other is a master ...

Thulium-doped optical fibers for fiber lasers
Photonics, Devices, and Systems VII, 2017We present preparation and characterization of thulium-doped silica-based optical fibers for fiber lasers. The fibers were prepared by modified chemical vapor deposition process and doped with alumina and thulium ions. Alumina co-doping was achieved through two different methods – solution doping and nanoparticle doping method.

All-fiber widely tunable thulium laser
SPIE Proceedings, 2016We present results from an all-fibre thulium laser system that can be tuned to any wavelength between 1710 – 2110 nm, without using any moving mechanical parts. An Acousto-Optic Tunable Filter (AOTF) is used as the tuning element, which allows for the wavelength to be tuned in ~ 20 μs.

Tunable high power thulium fiber lasers
2010 IEEE Photinic Society's 23rd Annual Meeting, 2010Two thulium fiber laser configurations are described providing widely tunable and narrow linewidth output. We show that such systems can produce average powers greater than 100 W.
